Pros:Small, light, clear display
Cons:Easily breakable, especially the antenna and lid
The Bottom Line: This phone is for those who are tech savvy and don't want heavy phones. But for those who want something more durable, the Startac is not the phone to get.

I have owned the StarTAC for only less than a year now and am unhappy about the quality of the phone. I already had to get the phone replaced once. The shell of the phone can easily crack under normal usage and the antenna tip easily bends and breaks off. The lid of my original StarTAC phone even made clicking and squeaking noises every time I opened and closed it. The outside cover of the phone can also easily become scratched up. The "Motorola" logo on the front of my phone already has several deep scratches since I got it replaced.

The phone's user interface is not any better. It is difficult to figure out without reading the instruction manual thoroughly. (It took me a long time to figure out how to use and add numbers into the phone book). The ring selections are also very limited. Although there are eight different rings to choose from, everyone usually uses only the first because all the other ones sound unnatural or awkward.

There are several features however which I do find useful. The backlit display and lighted buttons, for example proves extremely useful when I use the phone at night or in dark rooms. Also, the vibrating battery can come in handy when I don't want a loud ring to interrupt my surroundings. The battery of the StarTAC also lasts quite a while. And most of all, the small size of this lightweight phone can easily fit in your pocket or purse without being bulky.

The StarTAC phone has many unique features that can come in handy, like the backlit display and vibrating, long-lasting battery. The phone, however, is also difficult to use for some people and can break easily.
