Creative Still doesn't have it right

Pros: Firewire support, surround sound
Cons: Compatibility problems, poor craftsmanship
The Bottom Line: Creative sets the standards for the industry, but I have never had good luck with their cards. The Audigy was no different. I recommend looking elsewhere.

Just so you know, I have a degree in computer science, and I am A+ certified so please don't think that a lack of technical skills has caused my problems.
I upgraded my computer in March of 2002 and since my old Turtle Beach sound card wasn't XP compatible, I thought I would give the Sound Blaster Audigy X-Gamer a try. My last attempt at getting a Creative product to work was the AWE 64 and that went back to the store because I couldn't get it to work in my system. The write up for the Audigy made it sound so good, that I just had to give it a try.
XP recognized the card immediately, so I thought I was in for a smooth ride, but I was wrong. It took several attempts to get the drivers to actually install without some other board or component not working. I finally got all of those problems worked out after physically having to move some of the boards to different PCI slots.
The sound was amazing. It added a new level to my games that I had not experienced up to that point. Everything was going well, until about a month ago. Keep in mind that I only purchased the card last March. I noticed that sound wasn't coming out of my two front speakers. I swapped the cables, and the speakers still worked, but now the back ones didn't. No matter what I do, I can't get more than a crackle or a hiss out of them. I can only assume that the board has a short in it.
I have been unable to get any help from Creative. Their best guess was to load the latest drivers, which I had already done. In hindsight, I should have stuck with Turtle Beach, and will in the future.
