Pros: The sound...Wow! Like a church.
Cons: Can't think of anything yet.
The Bottom Line: Putting a DVD player in a PT Cruiser can be really complicated, so get it installed at FRYs. You figure out the configuration and the sound. This unit is great.

Wow, what a nice unit.
One of the main things I found was that the concept of a DVD player in your PT cruiser can take a lot of different configurations. There are those with separate units, and they are sometimes hard to figure out just what they are supposed to do. What we figured out at Frys Electronics in Sunnyvale was that I could use a Clarion DVS9755z head unit (in the dash), with a Jensen XA4150 600 watt amp (under the driver seat).
The DVS9755 has 3 basic components, a head unit which fits into the radio opening (with a PT Cruiser adapter plate), a control unit which has a real nice display which is placed somewhere on the dash (installed with Velcro), and a portable remote control which allows the people in the front or back to control the DVD or CD which is playing.
David at Frys did a really professional installation, and it really sounds nice (I would recommend having them install it, because it may otherwise stay in the box). Albert in Customer Service coordinated this, and without him this would not have been completed.
So, now I have had it for a month now. What do I think? It is mighty fine. My favorite things:
1. The head unit fits in the dash nicely.
2. I like the idea of having a separate control.
3. The remote control works fine.
4. The sound: It has some different sounds, like church, jazz club, and stadium. Each one gives you a new perspective on the sound. While watching Oh Brother Where Art Thou, the sound is very different for the different settings, especially great for the train sounds. For one of my Enya CDs, her music sounds especially full and rich, almost magical. Bruce Springsteens new CD sounds wonderful.
5. Lots of volume.
6. The head unit has a lot of RCA jacks for the inputs and outputs, which will be great later when I put in a subwoofer and center channel speaker.
7. The Jensen amp also has lots of RCA jacks, which help with making the installation easier.
Overall, the unit is a hit and is definitely something I can grow into. The sound in my PT Cruiser sounds like the inside of a church. I would recommend this unit to anyone who demands high quality sounds.
UPDATE 6-10-03: Forgot to mention that I am using the standard speakers which were in the PT Cruiser. I have bought some new speakers, but the original ones are working just fine, so I haven't changed them out yet. I added a separate LCD screen between the seats, so the passengers can watch in the back. It is interesting to not have a radio (This unit doesn't have an FM receiver), but I get along fine without it. I play CDs. The interesting thing is that the DVD has a screen (which the driver cannot watch while driving), but I can "listen" to DVDs if I want to. I like to listen to "Oh Brother where art thou". It has a wonderful sound track, with nice music, and I have just about memorized the words. And the TRAIN sounds are really fine in surround sound (It is actually SCARY). Love it. It looks like it is a really reliable system.
Update August 2, 2003: Still working just fine. Really enjoyable. I like the remote control, easy to use. Mainly using the unit to play CDs, but also like turning on a movie soundtrack and listening to it. It becomes obvious that movie soundtracks are not really set up for listening to. But some are. Oh Brother Where Art Thou works fine, listening to the guy saying R-U-N-N-O-F-T is just as good as watching it, and the music is wonderful. I would say that Blues Brothers, and Monte Python and the Holy Grail would be fabulous. They are next.
