I Got Sucked In!
I was searching around for a place to order new checks since we had recently moved and I needed to get our new address on our checks. I found that ChecksUnlimited.com had a really good introductory offer. Note that this offer can’t be used for business checks-they must be personal checks. You could get 3 boxes of checks and your 4th box is free, get free custom lettering and free shipping and handling. I thought that was a pretty good deal. Now for the hard part...finding the perfect check! I wanted something not too girly since my husband has to use them yet something that I really liked.
Using the Site
The site is pretty easy to use but my main complaint is speed. The site is really slow loading since they have pretty big images of the checks. I would say an average of 1 minute loading time for each page with a 56K modem. When I clicked to see the address labels it took well over 5 minutes to get the page loaded. Trying to find the checks that you want can be extremely difficult if you don’t want one of the designer sets that are on the front page. I couldn’t find any other way to browse besides looking through each and every check. I would have liked to search for checks by color or type in ‘cats’ and get all checks with cats.
You do have to create an account to order checks and of course you have to have checking account and routing number handy to enter. My main tip: enter your information very, very carefully!
Variety
Checks Unlimited does have a wide variety of check styles to chose from. Some of their top end checks are their special edition checks. Here you’ll find popular checks like Disney, Looney Tunes, Peanuts, and NASCAR.
Matching Address Labels!
If you want, you can find a check design that has a compatible address label. I did not order any address labels but saw quite a few styles that I would love to stick on my envelopes! Labels are around $7 for a set of 200. I usually get load of free labels in the mail so I usually have a never-ending supply.
Prices
For the special edition checks expect to pay around $25 for two boxes of one-part checks or $30 for duplicates. I feel those are a bit too expensive for my taste so I didn’t even visit the special edition area. I found some really nice checks that had an embossed look to them and didn’t have a pattern. I wanted something that wasn’t too busy so that you could easily read the checks. The checks I found were $30 for 4 boxes of one-part checks. This didn’t count the discount of about $7 I’d get at checkout after entering my introductory offer coupon code.
Some of the check designs will have a matching checkbook cover. These are around $18 and I didn’t get one because they only had the plain colored cheap ones since my check design wasn’t a popular seller.
You can add custom lettering for a charge of $2.00 if you are re-ordering since it is free if you use the introductory offer. You can chose from Arcade, Artisan, Calligraphy, Contempo (my choice!), Script or Windsor.
Shipping & Tax
After their introductory offer you will have to pay shipping costs. The current primary online offer for reorder customers is a $1.95 handling fee per box of checks. For regular delivery you will pay $3.90/2 boxes or $7.80/4 boxes. If you want priority mail it is $10.40 and $14.30. 2 Day is $13.85 and $17.75 and Overnight is $18.85 and $22.75.
If you live in Colorado Springs you pay 6.1% tax and any other part of CO is charged 3%. Anniston, Alabama is charged 8% and the rest of Alabama is 4%.

The Check Wizard
I had some pretty good results with the FAQ program. You can either type in a question, just like AskJeeves, or you can browse their Q&A that’s listed. It’s really extensive but you might have to dig a little to find the answer or email them if you are unable to find it.
Overall
I was extremely pleased with my order and the fact I received all four boxes in about a weeks time. That’s pretty good considering it was free shipping. The checks are exactly the same as the ones picked out with my cool custom lettering and all!
