| meetvirginia's Full Review: Sony SAT-T60 DIRECTV Receiver with TiVo Service |
Update: Directv now Owns Tivo and has eliminated the monthly fees associated with the Tivo functions so they are now free!
When TiVo first came out, before anyone really knew about it, I jumped online and ordered my first receiver. I loved it immediately. I tried to tell all my friends about it but they really just don't get it. They think TiVo is for tv junkies or techie type people. They couldn't be more wrong. With TiVo, I actually spend less time in front of the tv, but watch more of the programs that interest me. Think about watching your favorite hour long drama (for me it's Law & Order) on a weeknight. At least 20 minutes of that time, probably more, is filled with commericials that interrupt the flow of the show. That's 20 minutes that are wasted watching pure nothing. 20 minutes that can be used watching your favorite half hour sitcom (w/o commercials, of course.) So while the normal tv viewer is watching one show in an hour, I have watched 2.
Forwarding through commercials is just one of the benefits though. The reason you can forward through them is thanks to the Season Pass feature which will record Law & Order no matter what channel, what time it is on. And if I only want to see the new ones, not repeats, I can set it to do that too. Ever get interrupted during your fave show, not with the TiVo pause button. Live tv will wait for you! Miss that incredible play during the big game, not with the TiVo replay button!
I can't even begin to tell you how useful and how much fun this unit is. We are all looking for some control in our lives, TiVo hands it to you on a silver platter.
I should also speak about the Directv component of this unit as well. This is the new part for me. My first TiVo used cable. Because I moved to an area that only offered one cable company at $60 per month for the "nothing's ever on tv" package, I decided to try Directv.
I can't believe I waited so long. I thought I had wasted my money on my flat screen Sony tv until I saw how it performed with Directv. With cable, the picture was fuzzy and not at all like the tv looked in the showroom. Directv changed it all and really showed off my tv's abilities. The picture is crystal clear, better than digital cable, it's like watching a DVD all the time.
The options they offer in their packages are great and with the introductory offer, I am getting like 200 channels free for 4 months. These are not useless channels either, they are just ones that the cable company doesn't think you need.
Overall, I can't believe how many people out there don't have these units. If you are even looking into getting a TiVo, or Directv, don't hesitate.
