Useful accessory but won't replace your regular stylus
Written: Jan 28 '01 (Updated Jan 28 '01)
Pros:Nice to have in an emergency, useful if you switch between writing and Grafitti
Cons:Awkward angle, easily lost/misplaced, expensive, feels different than your regular stylus
The Bottom Line: Useful if you are always switching between writing and Grafitti. The feel is different and as such I would recommend an extra pack of styli instead.
These are sold in packs of four for about $15 from Fellowes office products - they bought out Concept Kitchen - and are readily available from most office supply and electronics stores. Like the other products originally from ConceptKitchen, I think these are overpriced but have some utility:
1) They are useful if you are always misplacing your Stylus. However if you have problems finding your stylus, then you'll probably have problems finding these caps. Nevertheless with more styli floating around your desk, you'll probably experience less frustration the next time you want to input something into your PDA.
2) They're designed to fit on the top of any pencil or pen and they do just that. They fit snugly and don't fall off. I suppose if you're constantly alternating between writing and inputting data in your PDA, these styli could save some time but that's not how I work.
3) While the pencap styli are sharp enough to input data while not scratching the screen, they just don't feel right. The angle of the tip feels awkward. Furthermore, writing with a full size pen or pencil just isn't the same as with a stylus. The weight balance and the solid feel that you get with an all metal stylus different. Even after a few months, I still haven't gotten used to this difference.
Overall, this is an average product that works as promised. It won't scratch your screen and provides convenience if you write and Grafitti a lot. However, I have a definite preference for the feel of a stylus when using my PDA. I think purchasing extra Styli for basically the same price would be more useful rather than using these pentop styli.
