Pros: Nice sunset views from the bar and pool area
Cons: Very dirty, lack of good help
The Bottom Line: I would never stay at a place that was below par and where nobody really cared.

| popsrocks's Full Review: Hampton Inn Key West |
This past April my wife and I went on our first trip to Key West. As members of the Hilton Honors club, of which Hamptons are associated, we decided to use them. I must preface this by saying I am generally very happy with the Hampton group and indeed had a very good experience with the other two I stayed at on this very same vacation. In fact I did a review of the Hampton in Islamorada Key and gave it four stars.
We arrived about six in the evening to a huge parking lot. That was good for us. There was a problem for the handicapped however, in that the spots for them were very limited near the elevator. You must use stairs for every room. There is an under the building parking lot.At night we were not comfortable walking there. That is the only way handicapped can get to an elevator.
Another thing you should know and we already were aware of was that this Hampton is miles away from the happening part of town. We always drove our car which is sometimes difficult due to lack of parking in Key West. This tells you it could be a good idea to stay at a place in town. They did have a shuttle into town but not to return. There is a moped rental place in their parking area and seemed to be popular.
So we check in. We were promised a room with a bay view. "Sorry, all gone. We can give it to you in two days." We were staying for four. We reluctantly agreed to a different room. We lugged our gear up to our assigned room. The walls, doors and door trim of most of the hotel was filthy. Not just needing a paint job but having dirty hand smudges etc.
We entered our room and there was a terrible odor. I mean really bad. We informed the desk. They told us they had no other rooms. They suggested that if we left for a few hours they would do their best to eleveate the problem. We were anxious to get into town for sunset so we gave them the opportunity to try.
When we returned later the carpeting was still wet from getting a shampoo. It was still rank smelling but livable. We were once again told, "This is all we have". Not wanting to have to pack up and find another place at this time we stayed.
The next morning we asked for another room. They did not want to give it to us. It took some talking to get what we wanted. It's my feeling that if you know your clients are not happy due to your own problem take care of them. There were no apologies. They gave a, "take it or leave it attitude." This next room was a nonsmoking room with the odor of smoke.
The three rooms we saw all needed a facelift. The bathrooms were relatively clean. They were not very large and did not have exhaust vents. The Hamptons all give soap, shampoo, rinse and shower cap this one had them as well. They also give you enough towels and wash cloths.
The bed was very soft and my wife woke up with a sore back. Each room had a tv with cable. No video games though. My kids enjoy them but they wern't with us on this trip.
They also give a continental breakfast. Service and setup were not well run and there was a line out the door to get it. They offered caked, english muffins, cereals, and coffee and juices. If you came late you missed out on items. They did not replenish or "freshen up" the platters etc. It was not up to par with other Hampton breakfasts or what I would expect from any establishment.
The hotel has a nice bar set above a pool. I thought it was pretty cool looking. It is outside. It was clean. Both the pool and bar. You could see sunsets from the bar and I heard it attracted a good crowd every night. We were always in town at that time. One thing we did do was take our breakfast out there in the mornings. It was very relaxing sitting on bar stools with a paper and a cup of coffee. The view and breeze were perfect.
Two day later we were given our room on the bay side. It also needed an uplift.
The hotel does not have a restaurant. The hotel is located on a road with strip malls and there are some places there to eat. I would go to town to dine. One good thing is that the location puts it next to an all night drug and convenience store. I could use it for the headache I was getting from the place.
We really did not enjoy our stay at the Key West Hampton. The help didn't care and we didn't care for the place. We enjoyed our days in Key West very much and came down again in July with our kids. That time we stayed at a different place, the Wyndham, Casa Marina.
