Cricket Service In Greater Boise Area (Reply to this comment)
by traviskidd
I had first seen a Cricket advertisment while on a trip to Denver, Colorado in 2002. I thought the concept of unlimited minutes in a home calling area a very advanced thought and as intruiged.
Needless to say when Cricket service was first announced in Boise, Idaho a year later I jumped on it.
I have had Verizon, Trac-Fone, and AT&T. Out of them all AT&T was by the the worst service I have had. Both connection wise and customer service wise.
Anyhow, Cricket usually has really good promotional discounts on their phones, or offer huge rebates which is a definate plus.
Currently Cricket offers three plans. One for the el cheapo who doesn't want or need any frills (including the lack of voicemail which should be standard in my opinion)for about $29.99 plus applicable taxes. They have another for around $34.99 which includes many standard features such as voicemail, caller id, 3 way etc.
For the true local mobile warrior, their top-end plan throws in long-distance along with other high-end options like text messaging.
While I think the text messaging charge of $4.99 is a bit steep it is a good option to have when you simply can't be 'talkin' on the phone.
Coverage has been really good--though I have found problems within larger office buildings and a few 'dead spots' in town--otherwise the reception is really good. Also, I have found that even though service may be spotty in areas it doesn't advertise service in you can still get service on those fringes anyhow.
As far as pre-paid phone services go, Cricket wins hands down against Trac-Fone, AT&T Go Phone, and similar services.
The only cavaet the Cricket service has over other plans is that it is local/regional and you can't take it out of the service area otherwise it is a pretty good deal.
