My daughter just came home with this one so I looked up reviews to see if I would want to write one... how did I miss your mention of kilts the first time I read this? MH! oh yes. kilts are MH.

Doc, the really shallow one, off to watchthe movie now.

Since the USA's regions are set up in "states" and there happen to be 50 of them - Americans would likely automatically thinks the title referred to the annexation of some other region into statehood, and write off the flick as a boring political drama and just go see a damn Harry Potter movie for the 15th time instead.

Hmmm, not too sure. I don't know what the poster of the film is like in the US, but over here it's of Jackson wielding a huge feck off golf club and Caryle with a glock... hardly the stuff of political drama. But I do see your point.

Incidentally though, doesn't Meat Loaf right at the end of the film mock the UK in general with the line "you're a small little island that's nothing more than the 51st State of the US", or something similar?

Actually, the title released in the UK is much more clever than "Formula 51".

I couldn't possibly agree more.

Note: The film reviewed here actually goes under the name of The 51st State here in the UK. As far as I am aware, the name is the only difference between this and the American release. Can’t explain the change of moniker really, did American’s get offended at England being referred to as the 51st State of the USA? Who knows?

I'll give it a go - I don't think it was so much "offense" as "confusion". Since the USA's regions are set up in "states" and there happen to be 50 of them - Americans would likely automatically thinks the title referred to the annexation of some other region into statehood, and write off the flick as a boring political drama and just go see a damn Harry Potter movie for the 15th time instead.

UK residents, however, accustomed to a regional "county" split, would be more prone toward understanding "The 51st State" as a state of being or state of mind (or, even, state of being wickedly blasted out of your mind.)

Actually, the title released in the UK is much more clever than "Formula 51".

I liked the flick, but Jackson was too damn cool for the part. I think they should make a sequel and recast the McElroy role to Pee Wee Herman.

It sound like Samuel L. Jackson has scored again. I am looking forward to this action pack movie. It is a "sit on the edge of your seat type movie." I would recommend for the 18-55 age group.
