Is this a scam? (Reply to this comment)

Sears (Kenmore) people said that when the ice maker and water dispenser was used to a certain degree, the warning light indicating need to replace filter would come on. We bought a Kenmore and put it in our Colorado Cabin where it is used about three times a year for a couple of weeks. Lo and behold, after EXACTLY six months, the warning light to replace filter came on. Then, strangely enough, the same thing happened to our Kenmore refrigerator here at home. Apparently the thing does not measure how much the filter is clogged, it is simply a timing device so that every six months a call for filter replacement comes on. And with the price of the filters now up to nearly fifty dollars, guess who is making money? So, ask it again, is this a scam?
