Ease of Use:
Pros:Vivid image clarity - sharp contrast/solid geometry
Cons:Refresh rates are intolerable above 1024x768 resolution
The Bottom Line: You can't beat the performance and durability of the 753df at today's final street price of $140, or less.
Purchased late in 2001, the 753df is my first flat screen monitor and I'm very pleased with it overall. The contrast and brightness compares to monitors costing twice as much. The image quality for both graphics and text at the useable resolutions. Flat screen design truly does alleviate most of the glare. The image cannot be stretched to fully fill the tube screen area, leaving a diminutive black border around the edges, but I now understand that this is common among flat screen monitors. I got used to the border and I'm quite comfortable with it now.
Since there are some compatibility issues associated with certain video cards and monitors, I need to mention that I'm using a Visiontek 64MB, Geforce 3 Ti200 video card to driver the 753df.
The real limiting factor with this monitor are the limited refresh rates in resolutions above 1024x768. At 1024x768, it refreshes at 85Hz, which is easy on the eyes. Now that I've upgraded my video card, I'd like to be able to use 1280x1024. The 753df won't go above 60Hz at that res (its specs say it'll do it at 64Hz, not that it would be any better!) which is intolerable and dimmer.
I have noticed no degradation in image quality after 10 months of heavy use. The footprint is also relatively small where desk space is concerned. For $149.95 (after rebate), the 753df is a good deal, as long as you know it’s limited to 1024x768 res.
