Pros:Compact metal casing, stylish, low price
Cons:Large power adapter
The Bottom Line: The NetGear EN104TP is an excellent 4 port hub at an even better price. Highly recommended.
The first thing you'll notice about the EN104 hub is how compact and stylish it is. Unlike other hubs with their plastic casing, the EN104TP has a full metal case with dark navy paint. While it may look plain, its simplistic design is what makes it elegant and functional.
With four 10BASE-T ports, you can network up to four computers together. Port 4 also serves as an uplink port which allows connection to a hub or switch to connect more than four computers, or connect to a DSL/Cable modem for sharing of Internet access. A button allows you to easily select whether or not to use the uplink port.
Installation is simple assuming you have some experience with setting up a home network. Each port has a link and receive LED indicator lights to allow you to see the status and activity of the connection. The manual provided is minimal at best but there's not much explaining needed for a hub anyways.
The only fault I found with the EN104TP is the rather large power adapter it comes with. Considering how extremely small the hub is, the adapter looks a little out of place. Otherwise, the EN104TP is an excellent 4 port hub that's affordable, compact and a breeze to setup and use. It’s perfect for networking a few computers in your home. Just don’t forget to pick up some CAT 5 Ethernet cable as well.
