A Man's Guide To Massage Oil

Jan 29 '01

The Bottom Line Not all massage oils are the same. Shop around and don't buy the first one that jumps out at you.

There are many aspects that must be considerd when choosing the massage oil for you. Men have specail needs in this area, and certain products fill those needs and others do not. The areas of issue are smell, thickness of the oil, and any other specail attributes the individual oil has.

Now we all know that massage oil is better when heated, but not hot. Anyone can put the oil in a dispenser and place it in a microwave to be heated. But come on now, when you are in the mood for a massage you don't want to bother with heating the oil. That is where the self heating oils are great! The friction of the hands, on the area of the body where the oil is placed, causes some oils to heat. This can help relax the muscles in question and enhance the overall effect of the massage.

Some oils have flavors that range from chocolate to cherry to raspberry. Usually the flavor and the smell go together. These added sensory stimulants help to make the subject of the massage to become engrosed in the act and forget what is occuring around them. This aids relaxation and thus the massage as a whole. But the smell can not be overpowering. If the scent is too strong it can disstract from the massage, and reduce the effectiveness of the massage.

The thickness of the oil is very, very important. If the oil is too watery there will not be enough friction in which to aid the soothing effect of the hands on the skin. The oil must be of a thick consistancy in order to help the massage. Also watery oils can run off the skin and make a mess. Oils can stain and be very difficult to clean, if not treated immediately. And as with heating oils, when in the mood for a massage one does not wish to take the effort to clean up a mess.

When chosing a massage oil take all of these factors into account. What special abilities are important to you? DO you enjoy a very thick oil or not? What scent best puts you at ease? These are important issues, do not just buy any oil, thinking that one is as good as another. You may find yourself disapointed when it comes to the effect of the massage. Shop around, and check out what your friends here on Epinions have to say about each availible product.
