Pros: Reasonable reception, neat phones
Cons: Worthless customer service, Phantom roaming charges, reception cuts out at times
The Bottom Line: Worthless. They don't care, even when they could do something about the problem. I guess it's profits first/customer last.

| azzgunther's Full Review: General Reviews of SunCom Customer Service |
Suncom is a company that really has the potential to be good. Unfortunately, they seem to be determined to give their customers headaches and aggrivate them at a whim. I'm not sure how this business model came to be accepted, but I can assure you that it won't last long because the company will (hopefully) cease to exist soon. I've read the reviews of other disgruntled users, and I can't agree more wholeheartedly with them about the flaws. Here's my story.
I've got a Panasonic Allure phone with a $19.99/mo service fee. The whole reason I got a phone and plan with Suncom was because I thought that with the low prices I would be able to afford a lifestyle with a cell phone that I'll use relatively sparingly. Sadly, this is not the case. You see, even though my plan says that I'll be covered in the Madison, Wisconsin area and surrounding suburbs by Suncom, my wonderful customer service operator is quick to point out that my phone may end up picking up other carriers, thus giving me ROAMING, TRAVELLING, and LONG DISTANCE CHARGES! So, instead of a $19.99/mo bill with taxes totalling approximately $23.00, I've got a six month list with the following; 38.54 (this reflects a $15.00 activation fee to be fair), 23.25,22.91, 32.43, 48.44, and 35.19.
After I started getting bills that were reflecting charges almost double that stated on the origional agreement, I called Suncom to ask what was going on. My operator who's name I don't have was smug, rude, and short with me. That would have been fine (I deal with that all the time) if she were willing to do something about the roaming charges on my bills that were completely fabricated. Sadly, this is apparently something that just happens and that I should live with. I'm sure that's how it works when you're looking for big profits, but for me who agreed to be paying about $20.00/mo., no, it's not ok at all.
To be more precise, these charges that I'm talking about are due to roaming + long distance charges. Which is interesting...since the bill even states that the calls came from my home city. So...I'm roaming in my own city. More, I'm paying the added long distance charges because I'm roaming. The operator says this is due to my phone. She says that they cannot rebate the questioned amounts, even though I should not have been charged them as stated in my contract. My next step will be to call them again tomorrow; a few times if necessary, and if it's not resolved I'll be writing to the proper government departments about Suncon's scam.
