Pros: Good story, but the ABBA-ness oozing from the show was the real star.
Cons: One sequence of songs in the second act seemed forced or rushed.
The Bottom Line: Go see it. It's fun, it's ABBA.

| titaniumtommy's Full Review: Mamma Mia! |
I saw the show at San Francisco's Orpheum. The theater was spectacular. It had a "grand old" feel to it. I had 5th row center seats so we had a great view. I was able to see every expression on the actor's faces.
The story itself is quite entertaining and full of fun twists. It's basically about a young woman (Sophie) who is getting married but doesn't know who her father is since her mother fooled around with various fellows in her youth and ditched them all. Sophie decides to send out three invitations to different men who her mother had relations with 9 months before her birthday. Of course, she her mother doesn't know and a whole slew of antics ensue.
The main characters were quite complex. Each one had tough issues to work out. Luckily, this didn't weigh down the mood and actually fit the ABBA songs quite well. The finale (which I won't reveal) is the crowning moment of the show.
I would definitely recommend this if you're a fan of musicals or theater in general. Get dressed up, have a great dinner, and enjoy the show!
