Pros:Picks up a lot of dirt.
Cons:Steam? What steam?
The Bottom Line: Excellent at keeping clean carpets clean and fixing nasty spills. Not a replacement for professional equipment. Glad I have it.

The cleaner works great. It will get up plenty of dirt but not as much as a pro could get. It is pretty much equal with what you would rent at home depot, etc. Not as durable as rentals but just as effective. The real advantage is that you always have it around so it is there when you are motivated or really need it for emergencies.

Once you get the hang of it, it works better. The first time I used it I was ready to return it. High expectations and low skill are a bad mix.

It is best at keeping/maintaining your carpets clean. If you have a "disaster area" for carpets it may be best to start with a professional deep cleaning of some type (there are several methods - two use steam - do your homework).

I really like the rotating hand unit. This is just great for getting around carpeted toilets. What else would you use for this job? I can't comment on stairs but it should do the trick.

It is also a great water/liquid vac if you do not have a shop vac.

Have pets? Dirty dogs? Better have the stemVac...

Keep in mind that these products are called "steam" cleaners because they are able to take liberty with semantics. There is NO steam involved in ANY of these so called steam cleaners. There is NO heat source at all in the device. The bissell that "warms" does not make steam, it just keeps the water warmer. "steamVac" does not equal "steam producing vac". These companies could produce steam if they wanted to but it would cost more and somebody would get badly burned and they would get sued. None of the rentals produce steam either. Steam burns worse that boiling water. If you were home depot, would you send a real steamer home with a boneHead that has curious and "helpful" children? I don't think so! Either does hover/bissel/etc.
