| analogrulz105's Full Review: Aiwa HS-TX694 Personal Cassette Player |
This is one of the best personal cassette stereos I ever owned. I bought it back in 1999, and am still using it now. Back then I paid $50 at Circuit City for this unit. One of the main reasons I bought it was because it had an electronic EQ, so I could adjust the sound to what type of music I was listening to. They had settings for Pop, Rock, Classic, and Jazz.
It also has Dolby B NR. Tapes sound absolutely fantastic in this unit, very clear, sharp sound and real smooth bass, especially when EQ is set to jazz. Batteries last pretty long, about 30 hours playback time on two AA's.
It also can recieve TV stations 2-13 and the weather band. It gets pretty decent reception, except if you are right near alot of stations.
It is also pretty durable, since it has been dropped a few times and still sounds great. Only problems I have now are due to old age, generally cosmetic stuff. Also there is a problem sometimes a tape won't go into the deck properly, and I was worried a few months back when it wouldn't play a tape right. But all it needed was a good head cleaning, something you can do at home with a qtip and alchohol. Don't use those cleaning tapes, they don't do a thorough job!
As I said I still use mainly this unit, as I have not seen anything on the market that's as good as this one. It's too bad Aiwa discontinued it, because of the popularity of CD's these days. I still use tapes solely for recording, because portably, nothing beats cassettes.
