| svjackson's Full Review: Philips DSR6000R DIRECTV Receiver with TiVo Servic... |
It's hard to describe to someone who hasn't seen a combination DirecTV and TiVo unit the impact this electronic device has on your life. Before DirecTiVo, my wife and I wasted way too much time surfing channels whenever we had a spare hour or two from our busy schedule. We missed a lot of episodes because we were either too busy or just plain forgot when a show would come on.
You will need to run two cable lines from your dual LNB satellite dish to the back of the DSR6000R. If you have other satellite receivers in your house you'll have to add a multi-switch. Since the unit has two turners (hence the two cables) you can record a channel while watching another. Or you can record two different channels while watching a pre-recorded show. You can pause and rewind live TV and, with your recorded shows, zip through those annoying commercials in under 8 seconds!
The programming options are amazing. I have mine set up to record every first run episode of "Sopranos" and every episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond", rerun or first run. You can limit the total number of episodes it keeps (if you want) and how long it keeps them (if you want). Do you want to search for every movie that Joel Coen has directed that's playing in the next 2 weeks, no problem; you can do that with a wish list.
The Series 2 DirecTiVo units are rumored to be out in October or November. You should wait for them.
