Pros: 5.1 mixing using their ASIO drivers and excellent clarity in games and music
Cons: drivers can be buggy and unpredictable
The Bottom Line: Great card. 5.1 mix downs rules. I bought OEM. only way to go.

| alphaproject's Full Review: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer Sound Car... |
Ok, this might be a little hard for most people to understand, but I will try my best to explain why I need this Audigy in my computer.
First of all, I play games and it accelerates games perfectly. The sound is clean, and precise in 4.1 gaming mode.
Using headphones I can tell that the quality is pretty darn good.
Now here's why I needed this card and NO other would do, besides a VERY, VERY expensive pro audio card.
The audigy, under Win XP, allows real-time 5.1 mix downs in Nuendo, or Cubase SX, and assumingly other Pro Audio software that mixes down to 2, 4, or 5.1, even 7.1 surround modes.
The audigy allows 3 busses of outputs to open up.
The left, right, center, LFE, Right S, and Left S. The Philips Acoustic Edge can do this under Win98, and WinMe, but after I reformatted and did a clean install of Win Xp, the ability disappeared and never came back. I sold that card, bought the Audigy, and the ability came back. Woohoo!
The drivers have been a little disapointing because the newest ones were causing some popping and lockups during certain applications. The best drivers in my opinion are the OEM compaq drivers. You have to delete somekind of file in order for it to work, but it's very simple. Once you do that, you install and it runs awesome.
