Luckily I was able to return mine and worked off my anger by writing my lengthy epinion of this (IMO) disreputable company. Thanks for validating my opinion of Comcrap!

when I got a laptop, I went to a local guy and got one custom-built with what I wanted. I shelled out some bucks to get everything I wanted, but I also can drive right over there if it breaks.

I remember, back in the late 1980s, they used to stand for quality. Now the only thing that sets them apart, besides lousiness of components, is the proprietary nature of their setups that makes it difficult or impossible to replace failed parts without forking over big time. Thanks for helping spread the word about a company that has decided consumers no longer matter.

:-)) I've never lived in Kansas, but many people infer that from my screen name! (The "KS" in my screen name stands for the initials of my middle and last names.)
And so the list of unhappy Compaq owners continues to grow. I suppose the only way to tell Compaq how disgusted we are is not to purchase their machines. Spread the word; let others know, so that they might avoid a costly mistake.

Claire, everything I've seen bears out what you are saying about Compaq. It's only worth buying if the choice is between Compaq or an E-machine.

You are just one of thousands who are completely disgusted with their Compaq machines...and yes, I wonder as well how they manage to stay in business. But then again, think about all the unsuspecting souls still out there who have no idea that they are about to purchase a piece of junk that will give them continual problems! It will be those people that Compaq will continue to benefit from!

I can't even imagine how they can possibly stay in business. We had major problems some months back and it has been a big nightmare. I wish your friend lots of luck!
