| coffeeaddict's Full Review: Logitech TrackMan® (904369-0403-EA) Trackball |
**This review assumes that you are familiar with the specifications of this product. I'm just going to highlight some key features and some drawbacks. I'm also including some suggestions which may help in using the product.**
If you are anything like me, you have piles and piles of papers and books on your desk. Not only is there not a place to rest your arm, but a place to put a mouse or trackball. That's where this neat invention by Logitech comes in.
Measuring approximately 5.75 inches long and 4 inches wide, it can fit in the palm of an average hand. This allows you to even hold the trackball sideways or upside down, great when you are just sitting back in your chair surfing the web.
Using Logitech's patented optical technology, the trackball is very accurate and smooth; not to mention there are no mechanical parts to clean. The trackball is so accurate that making drawings and such in photoshop is a breeze.
The only drawback of this device is that it is very sensitive as to where the receiver is placed. If you place it too close to your pc case or your monitor, range is reduced by about 70% (advertised range being 6 inches). After testing different places, I found that to get optimum range, the best place to put the receiver is taped under the desk (using some double sided adhesive).
All in all, this is a solid product with average battery life as compared to others of its kind. After many months of heavy usage, I would highly recommend it to any computer user. One caveat is that if you are not used to a trackball, there is a short learning curve.
