X makes his 2nd appearnce

Pros:good mega man x game
Cons:no playable Zero, the price of this game is high.
The Bottom Line: if you love Mega Man games then the amount you will pay may be worth the effort, if not don't even bother getting this.

Back in May I was shopping at a flea market and I notice this game for only 20 dollars, which for this game is pretty cheap (explain later). The game did have a crack in it but I decided to take a chance because if it did work the offer was to good to pass up. I brought it home, put it in my Super, and low in behold it worked perfectly. Now while it's not the best in the x series it's still a good game.

Story.
It's been 6 months since Mega Man X destroyed the Maverick leader Sigma. This victory was only won though because his friend and partner Zero sacrificed himself in order to stop Vile. While Sigma may be gone, cleaning up the leftovers has been left up to X and the small group of hunters that remain. Problems start when X gets a message from a maverick group calling themselves the X hunters, the X hunters have collected the remains of Zero and are planing on bringing him back on there side. Now X has to stop a new wave of Mavericks while looking for the remains of his partners. What secrets do the X hunters hold that make them think that Zero will help them if rebuild.

Graphics.
The graphics are improve over the original X. Similar to the playstation games a lot of X sprites are reused. This means we get the overly enlarged head and smaller body that we got in all of the SNES Mega Man games. The colors are brighter though and the screen looks a little cleaner then it did in the original X.

Sound
More Mega Man X music that fits the SNES Mega Man X games. There are a few reused music themes from the original, but that's OK there all good to listen to.

Gameplay.
This is classic Mega Man X gameplay, the gameplay that was held up in till 5. There are no rpg elements, time limits, stage changes, or extra items to equip to X. It's the simple Mega Man X formula of beating the mavericks, and then fight another form of Sigma.

Like all the other Mega Man games you start out with a short starting stage, then go to a select screen and pick one of 8 mavericks. Next part is go to the stage and beat the maverick boss and get his weapon, then use his weapon against a maverick boss that is weak against it.

Of course this is an X game so there are things that you have to collect that are hidden in the game, like heart pieces, and sub tanks. Of course the most important things to upgrade is X armor, In the 4 capsules that X creator Dr. Light hid thorough out the world are upgrades that give X new abilities: the feet armor gives him the ability to dash in the air, arms gives him the ability to shoot two charged shots at once, armor gives him the giga crush, and the helmet gives him the ability to scan.

Side Quest.
The optional Side Quest in the game is to find Zero's parts. After you beat a few stages the leaders of the X hunters will hide in a stage. X can then go into a stage that the map says there hiding in. In the stage X will have to find a hidden doorway that the hunter is hiding behind. If X beats the hunter he get's a part of Zero, if he beats all three leaders of the X hunters then he can bring back Zero.

The side quest is easily done and the bosses you have to fight aren't that hard, but the reward sucks. The only thing completing the quest will do is when you get to Sigma without the parts and he brings down a red Zero and says that Zero's mad about X letting him die, then you will have to fight Zero. If you get all the parts though he brings down a black Zero and says the same thing but the fight gets interrupted by the real Zero who blows up the black fake. I like the line that Zero says after he's done trashing his clone, "you should have read the blue print closer Sigma there is only one Zero". And if your wondering if the fight with Zero is tuff enough to really be afraid if you miss a part, the answer is no, if you find the right weapon to fight him Zero falls pretty easily. A better reward for collecting the Zero parts would be a playable Zero, but alas this doesn’t happen till X3.

Price.
So why is the game so price, on ebay I have seen this game go around 50 dollars, why is a game so old so much. First off unlike the original Mega Man X, Mega Man X2 isen't one of the most common games for the system. The 2nd thing is there is a lock out chip that makes the game impossible to down load and emulate correctly. This is why the price for this game is so high.

Recommendation
I should also warn you to that this is also has long lasting has a Mega Man X game, in other words you'll have it beaten within a day. So I can only recommend it to Mega Man fans due to the high price of this game.
