It is so gratifying to read a review on schooling by a mother who has tried all three systems. I am very tempted to take my son out of the public school system. Here in California, he has had good and bad experiences - usually dependent on the particular teacher that grade. We moved from England and you can imagine I was NOT very impressed with the school system here; even more frustrating was that my son would no longer have a morning assembly with prayer nor the annual Nativity which we so loved to watch as parents. It's a tough decision and I agree one that can only be made by the parent.

Thanks for writing!!! I tell you what, it really was on our mind about a lawsuit... but then I figured with how things are going in the public schools right now as far as that goes (at least here in California) we would of lost. :( It really is sad.

I am however sooooo thrilled with the private school that my son is going to now. He absolutley LOVES it. No chance that anyone will ever tell him he can't say he loves Jesus there!!! :)

Hope you have a nice weekend,
Christine

I was in the first graduating class of a private school, and felt like I had the opportunity to learn so much there! Not, perhaps, in the way of traditional classes. But we learned to be self-starters, and to be resourceful and confident. We also missed out on things like proms, but I don't really regret it. My children attend public school, but there have often been times when I wish that I had the option to homeschool or let them go to a private school also.

This was very informative. I just would have gotten a little secret satisfaction out of it if you had filed suit against that ridiculous school that had a problem with your son's show and tell about Jesus. If a child tells about a Hindu holiday, it would be considered a way to broaden the cultural horizons of the class. I'm not normally one to run to court, but really, where are his rights?

Definitely, each family has its own best solution. I know homeschooling would not work for us, since I do not have the patience for it. We ended up with the public school, after meeting with parents, teachers and principal and spending a lot of time checking it out. All of our experiences with this school have been great. I volunteered in his kindergarden class and have visited his 1st grade class many times. Both teachers were wonderful. But, my friend at the school 1 mile away is very upset with things at her school. We were just lucky!

I'm glad to read that you gave all 3 types of schooling a chance and was able to share your experiences with us.

No, no one has the right to tell you what is right or wrong in any aspect of your child's life.

I am happy to know that you found the right school for your son. Thank you for sharing. I just hope I can get this comment through as the bug has hit Epinions again.
