Alright so Nextel is not perfect! However here are the real pros and true to life deals with Nextel!

Nextel has direct connect and soon (Autumn 2003) it will be nationwide. Currently it works from Erie Pennsylvania to Tennessee. Many plans include unlimited walkie talkie time so this is invaluable!

Nextel has been ranked two years in a row for customer service by JD Power and Associates. The customer service is unbelievable and I have never had to wait to speak to someone for more than 2 minutes. I call customer service 3 times a month to check rate plans and ask questions.

Nextel has international capabilities for those who travel to other countries too! Another Nextel advantage. I have traveled all over the world and have coverage!

Nextel has it's own all digital network. That means whenever you have coverage you will always get the same service. Unlike SprintPCS if you are traveling in Florida and live in Ohio, you will not have to wait a day to get a voicemail notification because it is a different network (Sprint service but AlamosaPCS holds the network). Nextel has instant notification of voicemail and pages. My wife had Sprint and someone left her a voicemail on Friday night to meet her and she didn't know until Monday morning!

Nextel has better flexibility on the plans. What Todd forgot to mention is that Nextel only asks to extend your plan from the date you sign up on a new plan. Let's clarify this, if you change your plan in March 2003 and then a new promotion comes out in April 2003 (oh yeah Nextel allows users to switch on to promos!) you will not have a two year agreement now. It is now an agreement until April 2004, one year from the time you sign up. See if AT&T Wireless will let you change plans Todd. I think you will find out that you have to agree to a 2 year term and only can GO UP in rate plans and not down. Not with Nextel. I had AT&T and M Life sucks! It should be called F Life because the coverage is so poor!

Bottom line is I pay about $200/month for cellular phone service. I use about 2500 peak minutes/500 direct connect/2000 night and weekend minutes. I travel all over the U.S. and world! I have never used a phone like Nextel! I have tried all of the big providers too. SprintPCS and T Mobile really stunk because of the dropped calls. Anyways, Todd next time write a longer, more thorough review.
