| Leonidas's Full Review: Agfa SnapScan 1236s Flatbed Scanner |
I use this scanner with the now discontinued Fotolook twain driver. I find that, on close inspection, scan quality is poor, in that objects have fuzzy, poorly defined edges. Colors are very impure, with odd, wrongly colored pixels appearing. I checked out a much cheaper HP scanner with USB and found the quality to be far superior to the Agfa.
Fotolook does offer a lot of scope for the user to adjust scan mode. However, Fotolook has now been replaced with Scanwise. I downloaded this so called 'update', only to find that it actually produced worse scans tha the earlier Fotolook.. It appears Agfa are attempting to cover up the scanners inadequecies by making a softer scan. However, this only makes the scanner worse. Scanwise also fails to offer any worthwhile user control. When I complained to Agfa technical support, they would only suggest that if I was dissatisfied, that I should write to their U.S. headquarters!
Despite this being an SCSI device, it is not particularly fast.
