A solid sequel to the first

Written: Feb 01 '01 (Updated Feb 01 '01)
Pros:New levels, New tricks, new specials
Cons:A little repetitive
The Bottom Line: The bottom line is that this game was a great sequel to the first game, which was very hard to top.

After buying and playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater, I just had to buy the second one when it came out. After playing the game for the first time at a friend's house, I wasn't very impressed. I still bought the game, and I am glad that I did. It is a great follow up to the first game, with added skaters, specials, tricks, and most importantly, levels. I will break up the epinion into a few categories.

Levels:
This category makes or breaks the game. I think the levels in this game are much better than the first game. Especially the competition levels such as the bull ring and the Ventura skate park. Along with the skate parks, the designers have put levels from cities such as New York City and Philadelphia and included other maps that came from skate videos (school). In addition, there are many more level goals in the new game, and you skate for cash this time, and not tapes. The levels really make the game and they are an improvement.

Skaters:
There are three more skaters to choose from in the game along with a create your skater option. New skaters include Eric Koston, Steve Caballero, and Rodney Mullen. Each have their own tricks like the rest, and different skaters can only do certain tricks unless you buy new tricks.

Music:
The music in this game is pretty good. It has some more rap songs in it, and it also has larger name bands such as Rage against the Machine. I like the music in the game, and it complements the game nicely.

Create Your Own skate park: Yes you can create your own park in Tony Hawk 2. This is a great feature, and if you dont like the levels provided, you can definately make one you will enjoy. Add rails, gaps, pipes and pools. You name it, it can be added on the park editor. A vmu pack is required to save your park, but its worth it.

I think Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 is definately an improvement over its predecessor. Although it still features the same gameplay and structure, little things have been refined, and this improves the game. I recommend the game to anyone who enjoyed playing the first game, or for anyone who likes the sport of skateboarding.
