Use the GeForce...Three!
Written: Oct 22 '02
Pros:Great balance of Price and Power
Cons:Beginning to be overwhelmed by the newest games.
The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a card that'll serve you well with currently available games for 6-12 mos, this'll do fine. If you want real power, go to the GF4.
The leap in rendering power from the Geforce2 series to GeForce3 is awesome - If you're not considering a GF4 because of price, the GF3 series is a significant upgrade without risk of scorching your wallet. It's easily overclockable to Ti500 stock speeds, and more than capable of running most 3d-intensive games and DVD video at a variety of resolutions/refresh rates. Installation of the newest drivers from Nvidia's website keeps you ahead of the curve for the most part, in terms of smooth rendering and compatibility with new games/bug fixes. I can see it beginning to struggle a bit when rendering huge open areas in games like SOF2.
