Pros:Easy to read, accurate pictures to follow, positive tone
Cons:black and white photos
The Bottom Line: Denise is a positive read. Trim and tone without jumping on a treadmill. Great for beginners or a change of pace.
A year ago I was in an injury, roll over car accident. Twenty pounds later I needed something that would take off the weight without hurting and jarring so much. I had been a faithful participant of Denise's show for years and tried the workouts again. The next day my ribs would be very sore. Online I found Denise's "Pilates for Every Body" and purchased it, accompanied by the video of the same name. They are great.
Whether you are a beginner or the more advanced workout type, the book and video are worth the purchase. The pictures and descriptions are easy to follow, with three levels of practice. The photos in the book are in black and white and have step by step descriptions of each move. There is also a suggested routine schedule: as you progress, more moves are added for you to do, previous moves are done at the next skill level, and so on. The video is broken down into four segments, and it is in color! Again, the moves are performed showing the viewer each skill level. You choose how hard you want to push yourself. Although the video is a bit on the long side, 45 minutes plus, both are good for a change of pace and routine. I find myself doing some of the exercises all day long: while on the phone, in the shower, brushing my teeth, etc. If you suffer from knee or back problems, like I do, then these are a must for a smooth workout that gets the heart going without bouncing you around the room.
Austin is positive, encouraging and versatile. Once again I feel that I am moving on and up, in a fun way. Throughout Denise's workouts she shows you how to trim and tone while encouraging you to do your best. She shows the moves in a variety of skill levels. The resistance band she uses is not necessary to do the workout. However, it is inexpensive for those who wish to purchase it. I found an order form in the video.
I do the video in the morning and the go through the book at night. All day I have energy: I run instead of walk up the stairs, I chase after my Day Care kids easily and feel good all day long. I have lost five pounds, and gained an immeasurable amount of positive karma. My cloths are starting to fit again! At night my daughter gets down on the floor with mama to stretch and giggle: it has become our evening time together. I am looking forward to when I am as flexible again as she is.
Another good read of Denise Austin would be "Fit and Fabulous after Forty". As Denise says, "You are worth it!"
