Hi Brian,
just waiting for unattractive men with American accents to liven things up

A really attractive English man (he looked like Hugh Grant!) was trying to convince me that my accent was cute the other night. I said, "No, your accent is cute!"

I see you hadn't formed your theory that "Common People" is structured like an orgasm yet.

No, I think I had already decided that, but I chose not to write about it in this piece because I had already reviewed the entire Different Class album.

"Everything in the Right Place"? That's whose apartment?

Maybe my friend Ethan's. He's very neat except for the cat hair.

Lovely writeup: thanks for the lead-in! But it makes me all wishing I could move to England, where the girls are right sick of attractive men with English accents all the time, and just waiting for unattractive men with American accents to liven things up.

I see you hadn't formed your theory that "Common People" is structured like an orgasm yet. Have you Epinionated on that fact? Although it sounds like it's Radiohead who write about the other features of dorm living; if I'd lived in dorms, I would surely have noticed. Although, "Everything in the Right Place"? That's whose apartment?

I is amused,
- Brian

John,
I know! Strange, isn't it? I still can't believe you never set foot in a pub. When people asked my parents what I was studying in London, they told them, "She's majoring in pubs." I think I'm still hungover. ;)

Thanks for the comment, Tom. As for the quote, I never found London to be melancholy even when it rained, which was, admittedly, quite often.

Becky-G,

It's great to re-live our similar paths (separated by a decade), in that I too slept in Ivor Evans, on the fifth floor, in Camden Town, part of UCL, in London, England. As you know, I never stepped a foot in the pub, whereas you made it a lifestyle (karaoke mamma). My music for the year was... classical radio, BBC-3.

This was an excellent and charming piece. As we say at Passover, Next year in Albion!

Hey Becky...

Very nicely done. Glad I was able to 'come back' and read it...

Too bloody cold this time of the year.

Will be going back next summer, to visit family.

NO! I actually never have! I really didn't watch much TV (or video tapes) while I was over there. I'm not sure about Americans and Ali G. I think they might be offended by him actually. Supposedly the film is going to be released here, so we'll see... Thanks for your comment.

I love Ali G! I wish it were syndicated here- I think Americans would love it! (Or maybe they just wouldn't get it!)-- have you seen League of Gentlemen?

...Lonnie Donnegan died the other day. sniff. My daughter's big into S Club (they're not 7 anymore, so now they're just SClub. Did you know there's even SClub Juniors now...pre-teen singers. Sad). My daughter is 11, so she's allowed! :) Cheers, Kate

Hey, smashing review :) Very appropriate subject, too, for the associative power of music is, of course, known to all of us, and so too is the ability of love to infuse everything else around it - so it's entirely apt that you should bring the two together! And any mix with both Blur and Pulp will get my vote :)

what I expected out of a British compilation, but great anyway :) I suppose I expected a few on the less-popular side. Then again, what you've mentioned is great. Can't go wrong (usually) with Pulp, Blur, and the like.

My sister resides in London, dates a music guy named Robin and attends college while working at a web design firm. I know I'm jealous...

Nice job.

....the message featured me playing keyboards and playing "My Old Man's a Dustman" with lyrics which I'd adapted in my own unique style! You should have heard some of the messages people left! Glad you loved London so much!

An Exceptional Review of an Exceptional City (Reply to this comment)

The review I feel in Love...with a City: My Nostalgia Mix is a valuable collection of British campy music for everyone. Although reviewer Beckytcy has compiled the list for personal reasons, her descriptions of the each piece of music is thorough and accurate, her collection of music diverse, yet upbeat and fun. This is a superb mix for anyone to make for themselves and reviewer beckytcy deserves nothing but praise and success.
