Pros: solid graphics, online multiplayer, massive levels
Cons: a bit laggy online, one player mode is OK
The Bottom Line: Because of its excellent graphics, intuitive contro, and just plain fun, Unreal Tournament is one of the best shooters ever!

Id software. King of all first person shooters. Well, at least the former king. Epic Games takes the crown with their top notch frag fest, Unreal Tournament. The game expands upon the original Unreal, and this is one great multiplayer game! The game is quite affordable, and the game will only set you back 30 bucks. It is worth every cent.
Unreal Tournament is a fun game to play. The game is presented in a windows type way, with your menu options at the top of the screen. The menus are fairly easy to manuever, and its easy to find what you want.
Graphics wise, Unreal Tournament has the goods. However, if your in the dark ages of 200 or 300 MHz PCs, then you can't play this game. Actually, you can play it at 300 MHz, but 200 doesn't even meet the minimum requirements. You want more then the minimum. As long as your PC is powerful, you'll ge good graphics settings. I thought the graphics were good, and the game had some nice lighting effects. The levels are beatifully designed as well. Overall, you'll love the eye candy. Solid all around.
The game features solid sound effects and a very good announcer, for once. You have a bunch of voice commands you can access by pressing V when in game. Not much more to say, but it sounds good!
OK, gameplay, this is where this game takes the crown. There are LOTS of gameplay modes and a good amount of weapons. I'll go into detail.
Deathmatch: Hmmm, I wonder.... Your mission: to frag, frag, and frag. Lots of fum levels to play in. Good solid gameplay here.
Domination: I found this mode good fun. There are a few symbols around the map. You walk up to one and go right through it. This causes your team to control that target, and for each second you have control, you receive points. Fun, Fun, Fun.
Assault: This is indeed one of my favorite mode of play. There are about 8 masive levels to choose from. My favorite id the one with the castle. You are either offense or defense, and in the end, you'll have your shot at both. If you are on the offense, you do the task listed. In the castle level, you must destroy a crystal but must first destroy some chains. On defense, you do the opossite and protect the base. Great mode!
Capture the flag: Play a great game of capture the flag! Nothing much to explain here.
In addition you can have fun tweaking many game options such as amount of players, game speed, etc.
Weapons:
Impact Hammer: This weapon is close range only. Charge it up and kill in one shot.
Enforcer: Your standard gun.
Shock Rifle: Send a beam of energy to your opponent.
Ripper: A nice weapon that fires blades to shred your opponents. =]
Rocket Launcher: My personal favorite. Fire 'em rockets!
Flak Cannon: Fires hot metal. Yuuuum!
BioRifle: Fires clumps of toxic sludge.
Sniper Rifle: Your average everyday rifle.
Minigun: Another one of my favorites. Fires very quickly and accurately.
Redeemer: This is THE WEAPON OF CHOICE!!! One shot will end the life of this gun. It launches a miniature nuclear warhead!!
Pulse Blaster: Fires rapid plasma bursts.
Chainsaw: Your average chainsaw.
In addition, there is an alternate fire for each weapon if you press the right mouse button.
There are many massive levels in UT, plus the control is very easy to learn.
OK, your wondering where the downsides are, eh? Well, there is minor lag in the online mode. Plus, the computer AI isn't the greatest. However, ovwerall, this is the best firs person shooter around.
So, as you can see, Unreal Tournament is a top-notch game and is very fun. It has many modes of play and playing online is fun. Plus, there are many levels and the game is extremely fun. Buy it!
Update: OK, UT has stood the test of time and remains an extremely fun game. If you haven't already purchased it, do so immediately.
