At least when it comes to Mega Man games. Now there's probably over 30 and raising. Since I have been playing more Mega Man then is healthy I have decided to go back to my classic Mega Man games and type up a review. After doing my usual routine of getting my old nes games to work (it involves hammers, golf clubs, and large explosives.) I played what many people consider to be the best of the NES series. That's not to hard to believe because it's the largest.
Story
The year is 20XX and the first annual robot battle contest has taken place to see who the strongest robot on earth is. When the finals are about to take place the audience receives a strange message from the sponsor of the contest Mr. X. In the message the final contest for the robots would be to help Mr. X to take over the world. Now it's up to Mega Man and rush to beat the 8 most powerful robots in the world.
Graphics.
The graphics in the Mega Man series where always pretty good for the 8 bit system. While Mega Man is pretty small with only a few frames of animation, some of the sub bosses take up the entire screen. The backgrounds are pretty detailed to for an NES, some come close to the original Mega Man X game for the SNES.
Sound.
There are a few catchy if beepy Mega man tunes. You get a few basic NES sound effects of blasters firing. All in all this isnt bad for an NES game.
Gameplay.
First off it's true when people say that this Mega Man game has some of the most generic monsters there are. A few just copies of other mega man games. For example Plant man is basic a copy of wood man from Mega Man 2. Still the game is huge, not only to you have the 8 robot monsters that are usually in the mega man game, but you have the BEAT sub quest. In 4 of the stages there are hidden exits in which contain an additional fight with the boss, if you beat the extra boss battle you get a BEAT part. Get all the BEAT parts and mega man can summon his bird friend to attack the enemies.
The typical beat the enemy boss, take there powers, use the powers on another boss is still used here. Along with the powers you can receive Rush adapters. Rush adapters allow Mega Man canine friend to transform into armor which can crush blocks, and a jet pack which can let him fly for short distances. Another thing you have to find alongside the Rush Adapter and Beat parts is protoman. Protoman has a device that allows you to charge up your weakest weapon by grabbing weapon refill capsules, no more having to switch to get your weapons refilled.
Now what really makes this game a long game is the amount of last stages to, there's 8 total stages, 4 of them take place in Mr.X's mansion, and the other 8 in Wiley's castle (yes Wily's the one behind it all, who do you think it was Dr. Robotnic.). So that's a total of about 16 stages in the game, so this is the biggest Mega Man game on the NES.
Recommendation
If your a Mega Man fan then this classic game should not be missed. If you hate Mega Man then you should avoid it.
