| Dbbum's Full Review: PNY 700MB 16x CD-R (CDR100B16S) Media |
I'm an avid buyer of blank media disk. I use them to occasionally backup my hard drive, save photos, create my own music cds, etc. I've tried many brand names like TDK, Nashua, Prime Peripherials, and more but none have come close to PNY disks. I've been using them for nearly 1 year now, and have never created a coaster.
Price:
PNY 700MB 16x CD-R (100-pack) comes in a nice little box, which has a spindle inside. Spindle packages are usually cheaper, because all you get are disks and no jewel cases. I usually buy the 50-pack from BestBuy which costs around $15.00, while the 100-pack is nearly $30. There are other brands offering the same 100-pack of disks, but they are no where close to the quality I've seen from PNY.
The CD Itself:
PNY 700MB 16x CD-R is not the prettiest cd media out there, but it's quality makes up for any disgusting looks.
- The very top says: PNY Technology CD-R Recordable
- Then to the left you have lettering: 80Min 700MB, and below that some more lettering asking Need Memory?
- The lower end is where you can write out: Title, Date, Archive. They give you small lines to write on, probably couldn't fit more than 2 words on each line.
To me there's just to much on the label, and not enough ample room to write out what's on the disk. The disks are all colored SILVER, but to me the back end has a slight lime color glow.
Quality / Usage:
Like I've said before these disks are top notch quality, I've never seen anything better. I've used the PNY 700MB 16x CD-R for nearly 1 year now mostly backing up my hard drive during a reformat, storing my mp3s, and creating custom music cds. I have some disks in smaller jewel cases, others in normal jewel cases, some I put back on a spare spindle, and some are just stacked on a shelf as-is. I've never had a disk write incorrectly (thus creating another cd coaster), and have never had a disk break down from usage such as fading, stains or rust). Everytime I stick once of these bad boys in my player I know it's going to work just like the day I burned it. As long as you handle the disk as recommended you should be able to keep these disks in your collection for a long time.
Availability
PNY 700MB 16x CD-R should work on any cd burner compatible from 1x-16x and will hold 80 minutes of music or 700Mb of data. You can expect to find PNY 700MB 16x CD-R in most online stores and retail stores such as: CompUSA, BestBuy, Wal-Mart, Staples, Hhgregg.
Also Offered:
If the 100-pack is just to many disks you can usually find a 50-pack at the same store. PNY also offers the standard 5-pack CD-R and CD-RW disks if you need the re-writable type.
