Only Good For Looks

Written: Nov 03 '02
Pros:Looks Good...thats about all
Cons:Audio Jumps, overall a worthless product.
The Bottom Line: I would only recommend it if you have the money and need something to "fancy up your computer". Other then that avoid it.

I saw this at a one of the Market Pro Shows. It was $68 plus tax. They had some set up in computers for examples and it really cought my eye...because it looked good not because of what it could do. I looked at it and decided to buy it just because it would look good in my computer and of course it display audio info.

Opening the box I found everything packed nice. You have to first install the unit infront of the computer. Second install a small card in a open slot in the back and use a connector to connect the audio out on soundcard to audio in on the included card. This seems like it would degrade audio quality in the long run.

For me the install was easy, but im very good with computers. For anyone with a little computer exp shouldnt find it too hard to install.

After I got everything installed and working I tried it out. I have all kinds of fancy lights and lcd screens on my computer, so it really fits in. Plus the display is fairly accurate. Even for a *factory stock* computer this will really increase the look factor. The first problem I has was sometimes the audio jumps. Theres like skips in it. Plus it didnt seem as clear as before. I think this is because of the way the audio connects. I have two sound cards in my computer; onboard and pci. I connected it to the onboard sound and am using the pci card for my speakers and headphones. My speakers arnt connect to the unit to use, but it is connected to onboard to get accurate readings for the display. My computer is black and the faceplate is white. It doesnt look like it will come off without taking it apart the whole unit. Im going to have to do that and void the warranty.

Was it worth $68 just for a neat display? I would say yes only because I had the money to throw away and it does fit in with the style of my computer.
