Re: Battery Contacts (Reply to this comment)
by sam36
Thanks for the tip for cleaning the battery contacts. I've had this unit for about 4 years, and like it aside from the low battery errors. I also installed one in my parents' house, and they encounter the problem far less frequently.

Battery Contacts (Reply to this comment)
by rjeike
I have had this control for three years and its great. But twice now I've gotten low battery errors even with a brand new battery. The trick is to use a cleaning pad to clean off the battery contacts. Try this before ditching the control.

Good performance, short liftetime (Reply to this comment)

Installed unit to control my outdoor front light. Worked very well, though I didn't use more than the basic daily timing features. The only negative comment I have is that, after three years of continuous operation, the unit has failed (the outdoor light is on continuously and cannot be turned off.) I had expected a longer lifetime from a "heavy duty" switch.

I imagine it would be wonderful to have a "command central" for your household lighting! I've seen some very pricey schemes on HGTV in past years, but they are more or less for the rich and famous, from what I gather.
I think this little gadget would serve you well, Margaret -- just get out your electrical gear and remember: turn off the power!

Your reaction to learning about this product is pretty much what we get all the time. It's amazing to me that it isn't marketed better.
I know you will be pleasantly surprised . . . and it's almost as much fun to play with as the walking can opener. ;)

Perfect Timing! (Reply to this comment)
by pogomom, in Home and Garden
Dearest Amy:
Paul installed coach lights on either side of our garage. Presently, they operate off of a wall switch and if no one is home to flick them on, it is a bit dark (even with security lights) out there at night. This is the answer and I thank you.
(Note to Amy: When hunting down the information on this listing - I really should have read the manufacturer's information - we could have installed it when we installed the lights... grrrr.. dumb moi!)
Thanks for a truly outstanding review.

Reminds me... (Reply to this comment)
by Penguinlady
About 20 years ago, I had an X10 system that worked in a similar way. The best features of it were that it could be plugged into an outlet and used the house current, without having to be hard-wired; it ran up to 32 lights and appliances from one tiny little console about the size of a 3" x 5" card; and it also had a random feature to prevent time tracking by desperadoes. Alas, the control module gave up the ghost after about 15 years of constant use and the system is no longer available. Boo hoo!
I've never found another one like it, but yours sounds similar, so I'll check it out.
Thanks for a good review -
Margaret

Mark,
You will never see standard timers again in the same light . . . ;)
I wish they made an override for the plug-in's, but I guess that would require crawling behind the couch to reach the button on the timer. Not very convenient, I'm afraid!

Very . . .
like you to comment so profoundly, Larry. Proud you didn't go the "enlightening" route. :) I'll take your compliment and offer my response to your work
. . . creative!

this gadget should be displayed WAY more prominently in the lighting section!
