Lets talkabout it
Written: Feb 03 '01
Pros:Gets Great Reception, Many Channels, has pretty good battery life
Cons:Lacks an LCD screen
The Bottom Line: Some of the best walkie talkies on the market for the price
Okay so I bought a pair of talkabouts about 2 years ago when they first came out. I am amazed with their durability, i have gone camping, hiking, mountain biking and to the mall. They are supposed to go 2 miles. Which varies. They have 14 channels and 38 interference codes which basically means it has 532 different chanels to talk on.
Now people will talk this home into their neighborhood and be like "hey this doesnt go 2 miles" these walkie talkies out perfrom in resendentcial areas other 2 mile walkie talkies.I tested out about 4 different models of walkie talkies before i got the motorolas. They were the only ones to even go 1/4 of a mile. In resendential areas your not going to get 2 miles, there are trees house power line and other things blocking signal. But in the woods you will see very close to 2 miles even in dense forest. IF you are by a lake you will see increased range. Lakes actually amplify the signal acting like a boost.
Also many people get motorola walkie talkies in general and wonder what is this monitor button for? If people are on the channel the walkie talkie will just pikc it up and play it. BUt the actual use for this button is to pick ip conversations of weak signal. If you cannot hear someone and they just went out of range and you think the walkie talkie isnt picking them up anymore. Hold down the monitor button your going to get some static yes but u will be bale to hear that person.
This is a great product though by now your almost defintely off getting a new talkabout model.Newer models have LCD screens making changing the channel much easier. On the talkabout he says the channel to you. But these walkie talkies will be alot cheaper and are defintely worth the $90 i bought them for. I have dropped kicked and gottten this things wet and they still work. These walkie talkies will defintely last.
