You are not alone (Reply to this comment)

I have experienced much of the same problems as you. I live on the other side of the country in TN, and they are an absolute disgrace to a loan institution. You are exactly right on the fact they do not want to close on a refi. After thinking many many weeks and months on why they did not want to do my refi, I realized what I beleive it is. THEY LOSE MONEY. even though you pay closing costs, over the term of the loan they lose thousands of dollars. Why would they want to help you refi? Sorry you experienced similar problems as I, but I am extatic with my new loan company. So much easier and actually know what they are talking about. Please people we are not trying to slam this company for no reason. I would just like to save someone from this nightmare I have been through. By the way I drove by a small local used car dealer yesterday and on the front glass of the showroom, in paint, was written "Countrywide Mortgage Co. will lie, cheat and steal from you!" not sure exactly what that was about but I know he is right.

In my experience -- (Reply to this comment)

even in a refinance with the same bank, amounts in escrow funds are deducted from the refi balance, and new escrow accounts need to be set up (if desired).
Still an excellent review.

wasn't your homeowners already paid for the first year?
Usually, when a mortgage is set up, the homeowner either has to bring proof of the insurance paid up front for the first year, or the loan closer has to collect the first year's premium at the time of the settlement. This is a given in the industry.
It sounds like you had a really tough time.
Thanks for a nice review of Countrywide and what you experienced.
Welcome to Epinions!
