Music123 is NOT a credible company. They used to operate as a real store, like a walk-in place, until they went out of business (i think). They continued to sell stuff over the internet, but they are using a DBA alias (doing business as....), probably because no one would trust their real name because of the reputation they have (but dont quote me on that). The real name of the store is like Zapps Music or something, i don't remember.
Anyway, my friend and i got a 'custom quote' from Music123 for 2 JBL speakers, and took it in to Guitar Center to have them beat it (they have a guarantee). The speakers sell for $400 everywhere, which is the JBL MINIMUM PRICE for all authorized retailers to sell those speakers at. Well, Music123 quoted us $280. GC called up JBL and found out that Music123 is a DBA alias (thats how I know), and that they ARE in fact an authorized dealer. They thanked GC for letting them know about the violation.
So, after they GC guy got off the phone (he had to make at least 5 calls about this), he told us about Music123. He says that they sell thing that they don't even stock, and that there are rumors that some of their merchandise is ill-gotten. He described them as 'very shady'. However, this is just the GC salesman talking about his competator, so take it for whats its worth.
So the GC guy gave us the speakers for $280, with JBL's permission, and we were happy. You might ask, "Kyle, why didn't you just buy the speakers from Music123?". I will tell you why.
The same friend who is in that last story ordered a pair of Behringer ECM8000 drum overhead condenser mics from Music123. They told him, a week after he placed the order, that the mics were out of stock and he should get them within a few weeks. He waited at least 2 months before they finally arrived. He asked for a partial refund on shipping, and they refused.
One other side note. Music123, like Guitar Center, has a price match guarantee. They have a form you fill out to notify them of a lower price. Well, you type in all the information, and within 5 minutes of recieving your form, they e-mail you saying the following (this is a direct quote):
"Thank you for notifying us of a lower price.
We will beat any price from an authorized dealer for any new product that we carry. Unfortunately, we do not have enough information to validate our competitor's price at this time. But not to worry, we can still offer you a great discount for this product right now with the security of 30 day no hassle returns, a full manufacturer's warranty, and a team of product specialists to assist you 7 days a week! ..."
They give you that e-mail 5 minutes after you notify them. My point is that the price match thing is phony. Of course they don't have enough information, THEY DONT EVEN TRY TO GET IT!!!!!
In summary, Music123 has great 'prices', but you have to wonder why, and you must be aware that theres a good chance that youll be waiting several months to get the item you order. Is it really worth waiting several months to save a few bucks? Shop at your own risk!!!!!!!
