Pros: Excellent picture.
Cons: Not very "weather" compliant.
The Bottom Line: This is certainly better than cable or antenna. A little pricey though for monthly services.

| twinsmom51592's Full Review: RCA DS4280RE DIRECTV System Dual LNB |
I do enjoy our DirectTV satellite system. You have a lot of choices in various programs to watch. Though I still have had the occasional day when I could NOT find anything on that I wanted to watch. (Must have been pretty bored that day)
The actual receivers are very simple to install and use. There is a great on-screen program guide available with this system and you can get details on shows that are coming up. The only thing I really can complain about as far as the system itself goes is the way it "goes out" when there is heavy rain in my area. It does not happen all the time but when we have heavy downpours of rain the signal gets lost and you have "black out periods" until it has passed. This is most irritating when you are in the middle of a great program and you miss the most important part of the entire show! You have to keep the ice and snow off of it in the winter time too and if this is in an area that is out of reach, as was the case with us until we moved it to a easier to access location, you will have a time getting the ice knocked off of it! Once a bird even perched on the dish right in front of the signal box and we had no idea what was up until we went and looked on top of the house. Of course, things will happen like that. What can you do? (sigh)
As far as the service and programming- Well, I think it is a bit too costly for what you get. After all, most of the channels have a kazillion infomercials on, especially in the early morning! I absolutely hate the idea that we pay such high dollar amounts and then have 40% of our programming be infomercials!
I really do no understand why programming is so high, especially since we have to watch a ton of regular advertisements during the shows we do get to watch, but I suppose someone needs to make a fortune off of us "regular joes"!
This service does provide a wide array of choices in programming. I do think that they have many channels that are great. I have compared their service with DISH network and I think DISH network is pretty good for the price, and I may just try them out one day if DirectTV keeps going up in price.
