| zerodk's Full Review: Logitech Optical Mouse for Win Mac |
Introduction
Ever since my mouse (the traditional ball type) broke down, I am in the market looking for a new mouse - but really a new type of mouse. I had tried trackball before but I never really get used to it and my fingers get sored from moving so much after a while (perhaps if I had persisted...). So I basically limited my choice to an optical mouse and since I got this mouse, I had never looked back.
Specifications
Size wise, this mouse is about the same as the ones I've used before. It fits my palm quite well, but my hand is on the small side of medium size glove with long fingers (in other words, bigger hands may find it a bit small). There are only 2 buttons plus a wheel for scrolling. The feel of the button is average but I didn't expect much here.
Installation
The packaging comes with a CD and the installation is a snap. The control program it comes with give you some degree of control in terms of button assignment and scrolling speed.
Performance
Moving across the screen has never been this easy but I do find the scrolling wheel a bit on the slow side. It is never as good as another wheel mouse I have used before. Also, I find the control program is not as precise as I wanted. I can't quite get used to the either extremely fast or slow speed at first, but after some tweaking, I'm able to get used to it. The other annoying bit is that installing the mouse disabled the advanced functions of my touchpad of my laptop. Now granted, I should not need it when I have this mouse and I presume that when I disable this mouse, my touchpad advance functions will come back, I am suprised the installation did this. Besides this, if you intend to leave your computer "always on", your mouse will also be always on - the LED would brighten when it detects movement but it will always have a low dim as long as your computer is turned on.
Value
Well, I can't say I paid for it but on my last price check, it is priced at CAD $20. You can't really beat this price.
Verdict
Is this a perfect mouse? No. Is this a mouse I would be happy to live with everyday of my life? Sure. The only modification that can make it better (besides improving on the negatives I have mentioned earlier) is getting it in wireless form. But I've heard the batteries go really fast on those and if you are like me, you won't be bothered much by the wire.
