Pros:Precise, inexpensive, good for righties and lefties
Cons:Only 3 buttons, had problem with waking computer from power saving mode
The Bottom Line: WELL worth $25; you don't know what you are missing if you haven't used optical technology.
I ordered this mouse because I saw it advertised for $24.99 with free shipping and I had always wanted an optical mouse. I use my computer for many hours a day, and my Microsoft Intellimouse became so dirty I had to clean it weekly or it would be virtually unuseable. I often couldn't click the right button because it would snag and not let me move over another few milimeters. An optical mouse would fix this problem, because there is no ball to get dirty.
This was the cheapest optical mouse I could find, and is made by Logitech, a trustworthy name. Immediately after opening it, I became in love. I've been using it for a week, and not once did I have any problem whatsoever in moving to the proper place on my screen. Optical technology is truly amazing; if you haven't used one of these mice you don't know what you are missing. I just bought my computer half a year ago, and a mouse should last for many years. But the $24.99 price tag is justified, even if replacing a fairly new mouse. No snags, no problems, no mis-clicks, nothing but mousal bliss for a week.
There is something funny about this mouse though, and I'm not sure if this is the case with all optical mice. The light, which gets brighter when in use and dims after one seconds of non use, never turns off all the way. Even after turning off my computer, the light remains on. Though I know this won't pose a problem, I wonder if this light being on 24/7/365 will have an impact on its lifespan. There is a five year warranty, so if it does die, I can get another one!
Another problem I have had with this mouse is that when my computer went into "Monitor Standby" power saving mode, I was unable to wake it up by moving the mouse. This only happened one, and I didn't try repeating this. The same thing happens occasionally with other mice also, so it was probably unrelated. Nonetheless, I put my monitor off "Monitor Standby" mode and just turn it off manually whenever I'll be away from the computer for prolonged time periods.
Overall, I am totally pleased with this purchase. My need for an optical mouse is finally fulfilled, and I expect to have this mouse for a long time.
