The Real Secret to Digital Camera Bliss

Last year I purchased a Sony DSC-S70 digital camera. After months of taking pictures, I think I'm getting the hang of it. My development as a digital photographer has had little to do with the equipment - I wasn't much of a film photographer. It just takes practice.

However, after using just about every image-editing package under the sun, I had an epiphany: it's not so much the camera. Or the photographer. It's the software that makes the difference. Here's my story.

I have used the traditional "big boys" of image editing for years: Photoshop, Photopaint, Paint Shop Pro, etc. After moving to a digital camera I diligently used them to edit my digital camera images. But something was missing. No matter what package I used, I always felt that something was missing. So I embarked on the quest to determine which image editing software was really the best to compliment my digital camera.

I already had Photoshop, Photopaint and Paint Shop Pro. I downloaded every other package that had a usable demo. Then one night I came a cross a single review about a program called PhotoBrush. Photobrush is published by Mediachance. Never heard of them? Neither had I. But they had a free demo, so what did I have to lose (other than time, which I had lost quite a bit of trying a multitude of other programs).

Here the search ended. PhotoBrush is, simply, THE image editing program for digital camera images. I profess to be no expert in the area, but PhotoBrush appears to have been developed for digital cameras. PhotoBrush will display EXIF information (the data recorded on each image about the settings used for that picture). I have yet to see another application do that.

Photobrush is simple, and has built in filters that make digital image editing a snap. There are 2 that make the registration price of $38 worth it alone: The red eye removal tool and Auto-clean Skin. I would really like to explain what they do but I don't want to ruin the magic. Try them yourselves. Then let me know if you were as awed as I was :)

The bottom line: I have processed and edited more of my digital images in the week since I found Photobrush that I had in the previous 6 months. Why? Because it's so damn easy now...
