The Bottom Line Do what is in your heart, however hard the choice may be, remember your loved one knows you care!

But Darling, save the last dance for me !!

This is to all who are living with the decision to DNR ,whether or not you should put your elderly relatives, albeit it a mother, father, grandmother , spouse, sibling and so on, into a extended care facility. I hope this helps you in some way, read into it how you wish, that is it’s true purpose. This will not tell my age,my circumstance ect., it is just meant for maybe that one person who needs it.

To my Dearest,

I have often wondered what pain you will face during life when the time comes for you to make the decision for my care. Will you be able to honor my wishes in my living will, or will quilt and uncertainty fill your soul? Will you toss and turn at night debating on putting me in a “home” because you are no longer able to care for me yourself, maybe your health hasn’t held up through the years as you wished it would. Do tears sting your eyes when you realize the day may come for you to have to say “Please, no more,it has been enough”.

You see, G-d gave me, and you, all of us, life, whose choice is it really to decide whether to prolong it, try harder to keep it thriving on machines? Dearest, it isn’t yours, or mine for that matter. It isn’t the 4th floor cardiac units choice either, the choice is made from a much higher being.

You may also feel you have made a horrible choice by maybe placing me in others hands to be cared for, but don’t. You made the choice out of love, just as I would if in the same situation. I will still know you love me deep down in my heart, even though I may not be able to tell you at that moment. I will always know you love me just as much as you did BEFORE you were put in this horrible situation.

I hope you don’t grow bitter or angry about the choices and pain you have experienced, I know I haven’t. I still dream of the times we laughed, danced, and watched the snow fall in awe. I cannot tell you with pure heart not to try what you feel you must, I know I would. I can tell you that this is just one of our many challanges, one of the many dances of life we will twirl, but in the end, when your sitting alone thinking about the dances that should have been, maybe even could have been, remember I will always know there will be more, I just have one request....

Save the last dance for me.
