Pros: COOL, small MP3 player
Cons: Uncool, BIG watch
The Bottom Line: If you can get this unit for under $100 then it is certainly worth it, if only for its "cool factor" and limited availability.

| pinoy2722's Full Review: Casio WMP-1-1 Wrist MP3 Player (Black) |
I've owned my Casio WMP-1 since Christmas 2001 when my local Costco was selling them for an AMAZING price of $49.95! In retrospect, I think someone must have mispriced these Casios. I bought it because it was such a novelty to have an MP3 player/watch but, had I known at the time that these units were selling at over $200, I would have bought all of them in the display then re-sell them on eBay.
Other than the unit's small (for an MP3 player) or large (for a watch) size, it has two velcro straps to secure it firmly on your wrist. Besides keeping the time/day/date, it has an alarm and stopwatch and four simple (but not necessarily easy-to-use) buttons to switch between and adjust functions. It performs these duties well enough but this is not the reason you want to buy this watch; it's because of its ability to play music--and it does this very well, too.
The sound quality is surprisingly good, considering you are listening to a watch. I suggest you get a set of favorite headphones to listen through, in case you don't like the ones supplied by Casio. Casio states that you can download 33 minutes of high quality (128 kbps) music onto the WMP-1, but I find that downloading 64 kbps files onto it doesn't degrade the quality that much and you get over an hour's worth of music to bring with you. If you listen to your music in outdoor or noisy environments, can you notice much of a difference anyway? Speaking of noisy environments, I wish that the WMP-1 could play a little louder, but I'm guessing that maybe Casio chose to limit its volume to extend the battery life. It also has the usual single/shuffle/repeat modes that most players have plus 5 pre-set sound equalizers.
The software provided is pretty basic. My main beef with it or the WMP-1 is that I have to format the unit's memory and reload all my music to make changes if the memory was pretty full to begin with. In other words, I can't erase one or two songs and replace them with another because it tells me that there isn't enough memory available.
Casio also states that the WMP-1 is water resistant but I haven't exposed mine to water to test the limits of this claim (and I don't think many others would deliberately do the same).
The bottom line is: this unit is hard to find and, even less so, at a good price so if you are fortunate enough to get it, it may be worth it because it sounds very good for a watch which makes it COOL!
