What timing! (Reply to this comment)

Brace33 and I were just talking about how we weren't sure when we needed to start looking for homes if we want to move in by next summer....As first-time buyers, we really are quite clueless in many respects, so I thank you for this very helpful primer on real estate agents!
Sincerely,
Anna

I've Had Good and I've Had Bad (Reply to this comment)

Michael-
In buying and selling houses, I have had both good and bad experiences with agents. I believe it takes a different set of skills to be a buyer's agent than it does to be a seller's agent and I'm glad you pointed out the possibility of conflict of interest.
I would add one bit of advice to your thorough review by pointing out never to sign a contract with any particular agent for more than 90 days. If you like the agent, you can renew- but if you don't, you won't be stuck with them for six months...Mark

I will probably be buying my first house within the next 12 months, and your advice is invaluable. I had not even considered everything that you explained. Thank you so much.
