Pros: Good expert terrain, good lifts, short lines, good snow.
Cons: Cold, too far north.
The Bottom Line: The bottom line is Stowe is the best place to ski/ride in the east. It is a must go if you are an expert.

| colldy's Full Review: Stowe |
Stowe is one of the best mountains in the east. It has some of the hardest terrain you can find anywhere, east or west. Runs like Goat are just plain scary, but with skill can be fun.
On my most recent trip, I stayed at the "Top Notch Inn," a fairly expensive place but it was worth the price. It had good brunch, indoor tennis and racket center, nice pool and jacuzzi, good service, and best food around. I would definitely advise staying there if you can afford it.
On my first day of skiing, it was snowing like crazy. The total amount of snow was around 8 inches of supreme "eastern powder", heavy stuff, but definitely better than the ice. One thing that I really love about Stowe is that the snow always comes through. One problem with skiing so far north is that you have to sacrifice warmth for snow. It was -22 degrees wind chill when I went.
The best part of Stowe has to be the quality skiing/riding. It has three mountains, each for different levels of ability. For beginners, there is the Spruce Peak. Intermediates should hang out at the Gondola. Chinclip is a fairly good run for intermediates. Gondolier is always fun. And for the experts, Mt Mansfield is the place to be. The Front Four, as with Lookout, Hackett's Hwy, and Nosedive should keep any expert skier busy for a while.
The biggest problem with most places like Loon is the lift line length. Since the drive is so close, everybody goes there. At Stowe, the lines are very short. Even the gondola lines aren't that long. Another plus about Stowe is the size. With only 48 trails, the place is huge. 3 mountains spans a long way, and people get spread out.
Basically, Stowe is the place to go. With hard and long trails, good service, short lines, and good lodging, it has everything. GO THERE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
