Good card, but there are better ones.

Written: Feb 05 '01
Pros:Good sound now at a great price! (I have seen it for under $20.00!)
Cons:Some compatibility problems with VIA chipsets.
The Bottom Line: Get it if you think you won't have the problems I had. Otherwise it's not worth it.

I got my Montego A3d Xtreme about a year ago and I was very satisfied with the performance. There were, however, some nagging problems that tagged along with the good sound. Every time I would try to shut the computer down in windows, a blue screen would appear and the system would freeze up. To get out of the blue screen I would have to turn it off at the power supply. I called Turtle Beach and VIA (I have a VIA chipset) and they both basically blamed each other, but neither one could fix it. I put up with the problem for awhile, but then I decided it was too much and I replaced it with a Sound Blaster Live Value. I have since replaced the Live with Turtle Beaches new Santa Cruz which is a much better card.
