Pros: People at the store are nice. The phones are really cool.
Cons: No service where they said there would be. And just TRY to discontinue your service!
The Bottom Line: If you don't think you'll ever cancel service, go ahead. If you ever have to cancel, you'll regret ever having signed up.

| hughesb's Full Review: Nextel Mobile Phone Service in Sacramento |
We went to the Nextel store a couple of days after Thanksgiving and got our phones. Motorola i90 is really cool. The only drawback to the whole thing was that while they told us (verbally of course - and did we look at the coverage area here on the internet? No. Were we dopes? Yes.) that there was service to Ft. Bragg CA. When we arrived in Ft Bragg two weeks later (but within the 15 day cancellation period!) for a long weekend there of course was NO service. We visit Ft. Bragg a lot so this really was a deal-killer (had we but known!)
So here we are in Ft Bragg on the 14th day, not planning to get back to Sacramento until Monday (the 16th day!) So after we called customer service a couple of times and got the "we're closed" message, we called the store we bought the service from. They were (finally) very helpful but said we'd need to call customer service as well. To make a long story short - we spent a total of about 5 hours on the phone and never DID actually have somebody say "your service has been discontinued". What we did get a LOT of was - NOT "your call is very important to us" or "there are 850 minutes left until an agent will be with you" - DEAD AIR! We must have spoken to seven different people - each time getting just a little closer to what we called about before we got - DEAD AIR! The last guy finally said he was putting in a REQUEST for cancellation. We hope when we get to the store on Monday that they know what's up. Not that we didn't ask!
Let's just say if you're really sure the coverage area is what you want, NEXTEL might be fine. But if you think you may have to cancel your service for ANY reason whatsoever, think twice - well, maybe a whole lot more times - about signing up in the first place.
Oh, and the "direct connect" stuff? Just buy a couple of $25 walkie-talkies. It's a lot cheaper and just as effective. And it doesn't cost you minutes.
