I've had this review in draft since December 2002. I'm such a freak!
Until I started remodeling my home, I thought that wallpaper borders were abundant, rich in color, and vast in the numbers of patterns I could choose from. Then, I went to a couple, local wallpaper stores and I soon found out that just about every thing that was kept in stock was stuff that everyday, normal people wanted. Well heck, I didn't want any of my bathrooms or bedrooms to look like someone elses! That's when I turned to the internet.
Finding retailers on the internet who sell wallpaper borders isn't all that difficult. The problem is that many of them, sell the exact same crap that you see in your brick and mortar stores!
One online store that did come up in the search engines was The Internet Wallpaper Store. I came right to epinions to find out what kind of experiences people had with them. Gasp! No one had written about them yet. I decided - what the heck - I'd take a chance on them.
Their online site is pleasant to look through. I love their font (verdana). You can search in SO many ways (by number, by themes and topics, by texture) but the one I highly recommend is their Create Your Own Search. This is a WAY cool function and I could only wish that epinions would have a search engine like this.
You go through and answer as many of these questions as you want before you hit search.
* Looking for Wallpaper or Border?
* Preferred Style? (and there's a drop down list i.e. American Folk, Casual, Childrens, etc...)
* Color Preference? Then they break it down to Background Color? Important Pattern?
* Finished Effect?
* Print Size?
* Preferred Paper Material?
* Preferred Adhesive?
* Cleaning Method?
* Border Height?
* Scalloped Edges?
You can complete as many of these as you want and when you hit search, it brings back exactly what you asked for. Yay!
Each product page has a wonderful picture (bright and easy to see the details), there's a description of it (including the material, adhesion, width, pattern repeat, how much you get with one roll, width) and price.
Just want to order a sample? Yep, you can do that. For $2.00, they will send you an 8 1/2 x 11 or larger sample. If you order within 60 days, they refund the $2.00 to you!
Once you know what you want to order, you place it in your shopping cart, and check out. The Internet Wallpaper Store accepts American Express, Mastercard, Visa, and Discover. They will also take your check and money order too. Shipping is a flat $5.00 unless you are located internationally (add another $3.00). If you purchase over $50 in product, your shipping is free!
I ordered five rolls of border for our master bathroom. The pattern I picked was like no other I have ever seen. I placed my order on a Saturday evening, received email confirmation right away, and one week later, I received my stuff in the mail. It was packed professionally and looked exactly how I expected.
I was thoroughly impressed by the quality of the border I ordered. It was thick, the printing was gorgeous, and the adhesive was easy to work with.
Something else about the site that I appreciate is that it caters to the stupid people like myself. They have lots of info on how to figure out how much wallpaper/border you'll need, what other supplies might be required, and many how-to's that are practical and useful.
Overall, I was thrilled with my experience. It was seamless and the fact that they had more variety than any other brick and mortar store that I had visited guarantees that I will return to them again when I'm in the mood to redecorate the next room...
