Bye bye Sears (after 40 loyal years) (Reply to this comment)
by lee61
From Sears I bought a GE 3.5 cu. ft. washer, and after 2 months it broke, it REALLY broke. It flooded my floor and needed a new transmission. What I was not told was that at that time, I could have had the washer replaced. What did happen was 4 weeks of waiting for the parts to arrive and the repairman to spend ALL day (no joke) trying to fix it, with every nut and bolt spread out all over my floor. When he was done, he said it would now make a clicking sound, and by the way, he torqued the top of the washer so it didn't close properly. It was still under warranty, so I complained, to no avail. Then 6 weeks later, it REALLY broke again, flooding my floor and sounding like it was being hit repeatedly by a Mack truck. It now needs a new motor and new transmission and gearcase and lots of other stuff, it needs its whole insides to be rebuilt. I had purchased an extended warranty, so I am not paying for this. The washer cost $500, the first repair cost about $1,000, and this second repair will cost $1,000. Now I know that machines break, but I have bought all my appliances from Sears for the last 40 years because it is such a stand-up company, backing up its products with responsible business ethics ... or so I thought. With the first break-down, even with the huge cost, I was not informed that I could have asked for a replacement. Then it was too late, because that windodw of time ran out. With the second repair, I got the BIGGEST run around I have ever had from a business. Call Customer Service, transfer to One Source, transfer to online service, transfer to Technical Department, transfer to National Customer Relations, transfer back to customer service... Say what?!?!?! You know there was a 15 minute hold on the phone between each transfer. I did this for 10 days and then I gave up. Especially after the second repair guy said that in all the years he's worked for Sears, he has never known them to replace a defective machine. I have been the most loyal cheerleader for Sears for 40 years (I am 61) and because of that I really really tried to resolve this issue, but I cannot believe how horrible Sears has become, unreliable merchandise, evasive cruel customer service (because they never tell the truth, just endlessly transfer the phone call). Done, done, done. Bye bye Sears. You broke my heart, and now I am done.

I HATE SEARS! (Reply to this comment)
by ladyjey
DO NOT BUY FROM SEARS. Their customer service sucks so bad... they don't have ANY!! My front load washer stopped spinning. I called Sears repair - BIG MISTAKE. 1st they told me on the phone it would cost $65 to have them come out. The guy comes, goes down into my basement for 10-15 mins., comes up and tells me "the motor is all rusted out - it's shot." Tells me it'll cost $400 to put in a new motor but that I can just buy a new machine for $400. Then he bills me for $75 not $65. I go online to see what is involved with replacing the motor, maybe my boyfriend and I can do it ourselves and save money, right? I found MULTIPLE websites that said the same symptoms my machine had (filling and draining but only humming when it should spin) could be as simple as a clogged coin trap. In less time than the guy was in my house we cleaned the trap and I have since done 3 loads with my "rusted out and shot" motor!!! So you have to ask yourself; was he totally incompetent or was he malicious? If you look you can see NO RUST on the motor. I am voting malicious! And you have to know - had I run out and bought a new machine they would have taken away my old one - like they are so nice to take it off my hands right? But then I bet they would clean the coin trap and sell it as "refurbished" for another $250 profit for them! And to add insult to injury they refused to refund the $75 it cost me to have their guy do NOTHING (and no offense, but, he was about 5' 9" yet weighed like 400lbs., not sure he could even really get down low enough to actually see under my machine) and then try to rip me off! :( Plus, the attitude I have run into again and again with them on this makes me believe this is SOP for Sears repair; do nothing, lie, get them to buy new and then resell their old thing.
USE ANYONE ELSE BUT NOT SEARS!

Re: Is this the worst customer service ever (Reply to this comment)

The wife and I purchased a dishwasher from Sears in Feb, 2008. 2 months later it broke. Since I purchased the "master protection" agreement, I called Sears Service. Took one work day off to be told the replacement parts would be here in TEN (10) working days. I was very angry! Drove over to Sears here in Houston and after literally 2 hours on the damn phone at the store being passed off from one moron to another, I finally got someone with some brains to realize that the unit was under 90 day warranty! This person took another 30 minutes to get what ever he was doing to give me an exchange date for the exact type unit.
the exchange date came and I had to take ANOTHER day off from work and no one bother to show up!
I called Sears and they told me they use a third party company for their installations. Sears customer service also told me that they could not guarantee the installation date because of using this third-party contractor! What a crock of BS!
By this time, I have been without a brand-new dishwasher for 13 FREAKING days!
I get a call from the third-party contractor stating they would be by tomarrow NOT today as promised to swap out the broken unit for a replacement unit! I am not sure when this third-party contractor will show up with the replacement dishwasher! More crocks of BS!
So far this calamity has cost me three (3) working days - and counting!
Please, save your self and keep your sanity by NOT EVER DOING BUSINESS with Sears! This is the worst customer service I have ever seen! SEARS SUCKS!

Is this the worst customer service ever? (Reply to this comment)
by davco
You be the judge.
10/21 - I find a good deal on 2 pairs of shoes at sears.com and place an order. Credit card charged same day
10/30 - Item evidently out of stock, order automatically resubmitted
10/31 - email notification of delay. Promised shipping refund, upgrade to Next day air, and $25 gift card.
Up until now, things seem to be well taken care of. I didn't even have to call to ask about the order, or complain in order to get some sort of compensation for a poor shopping experience. All seems well, and so I wait for my order to arrive...
12/03 - Shipping is finally refunded. Sears gift card has arrived. No sign of express shipped items. I leave my home for holiday vacation.
12/28 - Return home, items still not arrived, my sears online account appears to have been deleted since I cannot login and the website no longer recognizes the email address used to place the order. I Email Customer Service
12/30 - Upon contacting customer service find that the order was cancelled (when?) and I was never notified! I paid money for an item that never existed and was never told would not ever arrive. Email Apology offered by Sears (note - no refund or any other help was offered).
12/31 - sent another email to Sears explaining "apology not accepted, you'd better do something about this" and was told that they were experiencing "technical difficulties" and I should call.
1/1 - called and was treated courteously, promised a refund and new account password, all is sugar coated and great.
1/13 - still no refund, still no account password, I am left wondering if Sears is just going to promise me the world and deliver nothing? I email again, pleading for some deliverance and threatening reports to BBB, FTC, dispute with credit card (MBNA/Bank of America).
1/14 - no reply from sears, but the refund for the 2 pairs of shoes I paid for back in october is finally issued.
It would have been great if the item NOT in stock was not shown on the website.
. . . when that was not the case. . .
It would have been great if when I added it to my shopping cart it told me it was out of stock . . . when that was not the case. . .
It would have been great if when I tried to place the order I was notified it was out of stock.
. . .when that was not the case. . .
It would have been great if after the order was placed and the item was known to be out of stock, notify the customer, cancel the order, and refund the money same day.
. . .when that was not the case. . .
It would have been great if I were offered a similar running shoe as the item purchased at no extra cost and expedited shipping.
. . .when 2 MONTHS HAD PASSED and that was not the case I don't think an apology is sufficient.
This is the last time I buy from Sears. I used to be loyal, but ever since their appliances turned to junk and customer service has gone down the drain I have more trust in Walmart or any other discount store. Heck, I'd probably put more trust in a guy selling stuff off the back of a pickup truck on the side of the road - at least I know what I'm getting - not empty promises. As for the gift card, you want it, you can have it! It's going on eBay - I don't want to risk buying another product that doesn't exist and debating the scenario for months.

Sears-To be or NOT to be shopped ? That's today's question. (Reply to this comment)
by dontaylor
Hi-Boy am I glad I've found this site in order to give my shoot-from-the-hip opinions. I'm NOT interested in just venting but, if I can save one family, or one customer a single hard earned dollar or aggravation of any kind, over & above the "norm" we have come to expect . . .trust me, Don Taylor will let you know. I'm the "Doubting Thomas", "Devel's Advocate" and when it warrants praise--I'll sing it LOUD & PROUD.
Now, concerning Sears this time around: My family resides in S. Florida, NOT Havana, so I too get damn angry when my English is questioned, as well as my integrity. So that fellow who droves hours & miles showed his knowledge my having part #'s & a catalog available-to plead his case. Man you helped me & I hope others to ask..."how easy can I get replacement parts ?" in these tough times, $200 is nothing to take lightly. You have tools so you won't have to rent. When my car's tires go, it seems Sears would want me to buy a new car ? Ergo why have to rebuy a new tool for the sake of a V.I.P. part ? Senseless--or is it really Sear's greed for profits ? they seem to think---you bought it, we gotcha ! ha ha !
Ok, just last week the wife & I went to Sears to ''comparison shop' Bottom Freezer Refrigerators. Ours is on it's way out so...
The sales lady reminded me that the sale w would end last Sat. I get online and find out the sale doesn't end 'till FEB. 2, '05. Hmm.
Then I read you have a CHOICE=free delivery OR 0% financing.
I get to sears.com and read you get one PLUS the other. Catch22 seems to be that damn rebate form...Thanks to the people here at this site--either I get FREE DELIVERY plus the 0% for a yr. or else I'll say cram that rebate !! That's of course, if we buy.
Again, like most of us, the decision will hinge on $-doesnt it always ? Or does it ? !
I cked out there Kenmore, which is 'on sale' for $699. form $799-if I have the price a little off, it's the 19.7cu" jobby. Well, I am searching for an energy saver so when I read the info inside that
told me it uses approx 2.76A(amps) my eyes widened & I quickly grabbed paper & did the math to figure out the watts used. I NEVER TAKE THAT YELLOW ENERGY USAGE PAPER in appliances as
worth anything. After all, how do they know how any appliance will be utilized ? Anyway, please note---AMPS X VOLTS=WATTS so 2.76A x 120=331.2 watts (approx) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wanted to wrap that baby up & take it home right off the floor !
That's more than HALF what our present fridge uses. I said to my wife, baby, this thing will pay for itself in no-time !!!
The euphoria subsided as I thought to myself---slowdown Don, this seems to good to be true . . .let's check out the net and a few more stores. I did point this out to the sales-lady--who simply smiled and added NOTHING for my quest for knowledge. Now had I been selling for anyone, I would have pointed out to the customer--that's the min. (MINIMAL amp usage). You know folks, just to show MY integrity & knowledge & my caring that the customer gets what they truly want--ENERGY SAVINGS. But this congenial lady offered me nothing--but to write out the M# and price and give us her biz card. In retrospect, I feel I got as much assistance as my saying to someone: "Hey thanks for help, if you're ever stuck on I-95, here's my card . . .but don't call me call AAA"
So here I sit, reading the reviews that precede my 2-cents. Thinking, there's got to be a better place ! So what if they offer 0% for a year, after that where does it go 19% ? 24 %? Dammed if the sales-lady was able to inform me.
As for the other review who never even WALKS thru a Sears, I can;'t blame ya, BUT, I walk thru just to comparison shop and get the hi-side-prices. YES. . .I have found a few deals like my still working, can u believe it, a NEW SONY Hi-8 digital camcorder. Heck, I saved over $350 on a cash purchase. I got 10 VHS tapes for $3.77 2 years ago. So You never know, you CAN get lucky. Then again, you can also hit the lotto on the same day. Imagine that.
Now, to find that refridge. I told the wife--I think I'll study hard on what's available and WAIT 'till those President Day sales. Ya think ? Thanks for your time as I appreciated reading your reviews.
I'd also appreciate your comments. Don

rebates (Reply to this comment)
by hemerocallis
I agree with your comment on rebates!
One day I bought 3 appliances at Sears. Each had a rebate. Two were rejected. The letters said I didn't include enough information - even though I had filled out the slips completely.

Obsolete in 2 Years? (Reply to this comment)
by davidpsr
About two years ago, I purchased a Craftsman Table Saw with a leg kit and dust collector included. This purchase came to approximately $200. I haven't used the saw much, but have been satisfied with it the times I have used it. Until now.
Digging the saw out from the mess in my garage was a chore, but finding that I had misplaced the Miter Gauge was the biggest disappointment. Missing the Miter Gauge rendered the saw virtually useless for what I planned to do. No problem, I thought... Head on down the the nearest Sears store, pick up a Miter Gauge and I'm back in business. Right? WRONG!!!
The Sears retail store did not have a replacement Miter Gauge, so referred me to their parts center, located several miles from my home and by that time closed for the day. The next morning (today) to avoid making the 30+ mile drive to the parts center only to find that they do not have the part, I call the parts center and speak to a guy who, for lack of a better description, does not have a good grasp of the English language.
He's Spanish-speaking, I think. And Speak Spanish he does... Unfortunately, I speak English. Needless to say, after almost 20 minutes on the phone with him, I knew exactly as much as I knew before I called. So, not knowing whether I would be wasting my time, but desperately needing the part, I drove to the parts center. I had a NEW (2003-2004) tool catalog with me that had the EXACT part I needed listed. Should be no problem, I thought. WRONG AGAIN! The counter guy told me the part was obsolete and no longer made. When he asked me how old my table saw was, I almost went ballistic!
After I calmed down and drove home, I thought how unfair that I'd plunked down $200 for a table saw that was now virtually worthless because it was missing the guide that pushes the material through it straight. This is the forum I chose to vent. I hope it helps someone else. Will I continue to buy from Sears? Probably, because it's convenient and they're open late. Am I a satisfied customer? Hardly!!!

Shipping Rebate :-( (Reply to this comment)
by mcgiven
Regarding: The rebate form to get the free shipping.
I dutifully filled out the shipping rebate form, enclosed the UPC from the product, enclosed a copy of my web receipt, enclosed a copy of my email receipt. Then 3 months later I get a rejection notice from Young America stating I didn't send the stuff to the right address! There is only one address/PO Box listed on the rebate form and email receipt. That address (Sears Redemption Center at a PO box in Young America, MN) is where I sent all the required stuff. The reject notice letter came on Young America letterhead (Sears also on the letter) and they were the ones who rejected it. NO rebate. Go figure! It AINT worth the trouble.
Note: I originally bought the stuff from Sears even though it was a little more expensive there. The free shipping made it about the same total price as other etailers and Sears claimed to have the stuff I wanted in stock. Even that turned out not to be true. One of the items I ordered was cancelled by Sears without them even telling me about it. After waiting and waiting for the item to arrive, I eventually went to their website to check on my order status and found that the item had been cancelled. I called them up and asked why and they said I had cancelled it!

I've never been to the Sears site and I have no plans to go there either. I hate Sears too. I don't even like to walk through the store in my local mall.
Sorry you had such a lousy time with the website.
