christmas eve and other stories (and) the christmas attic (Reply to this comment)
by poolhall
Trans Siberian Orchesta's above CDs are undoubtly some of the most inspiring Christmas albums I've ever heard. I've had both for about 3-4 years and just saw the orchestra in Buffalo, NY Novemeber 21, 2003, where they played to thundering applause. The pyro-technic/laser displays were superb, and had the audience on their feet thru the evening and for multitudes of standing ovations at the end. Not ordinally a "metal" fan, nor extreme classical, however, all that aside, their type of music is a WOW concept, especially for Christmas. Each and every soloist and instrumentalist, was captivating, tremendously talented, and hats off to Paul O'Neil and Company. What a great way to begin the holidays!

Mr. Holland's Opus (Reply to this comment)
by AinsleyJo
The way you described these songs made me wonder if the sound of them is something like the last song in Mr. Holland's Opus where rock and classic seem to meet and blend into a beautiful recipe for a real concert-goer-pleaser!!!
Just thinking about that song--and that movie--raises goosebumps on me and gets me all misty-eyed!
When you get a chance, check out the long biographical section of my profile page here, because I think you'll be impressed with what you find there--that is, instructions on how to get there! Let me know what you think!
Since I'm leaving this same message--or something similar--in all of the comment sections of the ones participating in this W/O, you know that it, likely, has something to do with this!
Happy Holidays!

I'm finally getting around to checking out those of you before me who are contributing to Jack's 12 Days of Christmas W/O. This is marvelous, Shelly! (You guys are gonna put me to shame!)
I had never heard of this orchestra until now, so I went to (the former) cdnow.com and listened to a few of those 30-second clips. They are quite different and very interesting!
Congratulations on a terrific 1st Day piece~

TSO (Reply to this comment)

Shelly,
I just discovered TSO this Christmas season when I purchased The Christmas Attic. I also like their non-traditional approach to Christmas music and have been listening to it almost non-stop. Great review. Happy Holidays. Sheila

Shelly,
This was a great write up -- as usual. I always heard TSO's name bandied about and since I didn't know anything about them, I pre judged from their name alone that this outfit was some sort of Yanni rip off. I should know better! Shame on me. This was a great way to start the 12 Days Write Off - THanks Shell!

This is Great (Reply to this comment)

My oldest son played in a rock'n'roll band in his last two years of high school, and paid for his first year at Ohio State. He continued through his first year at college, and then had to give it up as the band split up. So through him and hours of hearing them practice, I learned to love Rock and Roll. I think this will make a good Christmas present for him. A great review.

Jeez! That would have been too hi-tech for my parents! We had a nice assortment of vinyl holiday music - some of which are still around.
